When was the last time you saw one of these? Meticulous body off
frame custom restoration of this very rare truck. It was truly a
labor of love for the gentleman who built it. Lots of pictures to
document the process. Custom paint, custom interior plus a crate
engine are just a few of the upgrades. It's subtle yet profound at
the same time. This truck is an absolute winner in every single
way!
EXTERIOR: Super cool color combination! It was taken down to a bare
shell before being professionally painted inside and out.
Everything is super slick with a gorgeous Dove Gray color on the
exterior including the unique front grille. I really love the red
lettering on the tailgate that is outlined in black, and definitely
adds a nice little pop. The body is all smooth, clean, and straight
metal. All the panels are properly aligned with gaps that are well
above average. The doors close easily with minimal effort. The fuel
tank was relocated from behind the seat, to the back under the bed.
The bumpers and all the chrome is really sparkly. The dual side
mirrors are very practical with a unique shape. All the glass is
new with a light green tint. All the rubber seals and even the
fuzzy strips were replaced. The wheels were custom made by Wheel
Vintique with the correct offset etc. They are wrapped in a like
new set of Cooper radial tires.
INTERIOR: Inside the jambs are painted just like the body. The
weatherstrips were replaced. It has custom made door panels that
fit really nicely with an armrest, speakers and pockets integrated
too. All the handles are new. The entire inside of the cab was all
painted body color then sound deadener was installed. It has a
beautiful modern set of gauges that have a retro look to them,
really appropriate style for this vintage truck. All new wiring
throughout. The stereo looks stock but actually has modern guts
with Bluetooth plus am/fm capabilities built in. There are new
speakers in the dash and doors. The glovebox liner was replaced. It
has a modern heating system with new carpeting and floor mats too.
The bench seat was completely reupholstered and has new cushioning
also. Behind the seat and the headliner are all custom made and
upholstered panels. Even the sun visors were redone and the dome
light is working. A very comfy cushion grip steering wheel rounds
off the interior perfectly.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Reliable performance! The crate 390 FE big
block Jasper engine is upgraded with an RV cam, Sanderson headers,
Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carb with electric choke and more. Red
accents are abundant, and a very attractive compliment to the Dove
Gray. New dual horns and a full MSD ignition system too. It's
equipped with power steering and power brakes. All the components,
wiring, hoses, belts etc. look brand new. Upgraded electric wiper
system too. The fender wells and firewall are all neatly painted.
What a pretty engine bay!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The nice tonneau cover is attached with clamps
and can be removed without hurting the truck. The backside of the
tailgate has a simple latch mechanism to keep it shut, and it was
upgraded with coated cables to hold it up. The backside of the
tailgate and jamb are both painted slick just like the body. Inside
is all solid metal that is also painted Dove Gray. A thick rubber
mat was carefully cut for a precision fit. The new fuel filler is
located at the rear of the bed under the mat.
UNDERSIDE: The front end steering and suspension was completely
rebuilt. It was upgraded with a swaybar and coil over shocks. Same
thing in back, it has new springs, bushings, swaybar, and coilover
shocks too. It has a custom dual exhaust system with stainless
Magnaflow mufflers and a new fuel system including a fuel tank from
a 1969 Mustang. The brake system has been completely redone and
upgraded with disc in the front. Looking up at the motor it's
spotless and has a custom-made oil pan plus a high torque starter.
The heavy duty C6 automatic transmission was rebuilt and has a
custom-built drive shaft. In back is a rebuilt 9" rear end with
Strange Engineering 31 spline axles and 3.25 posi gearing. It has
totally solid, rust free floors that are smooth and clean and
neatly painted satin black. The frame was completely sandblasted,
prepped, and painted semi-gloss black as well.
SERVICE: We inspected this truck and we fixed the temperature
gauge, adjusted the driver's door lock, and replaced exhaust
manifold gaskets.
I bought this truck locally from the craftsman that restored it. It
is his baby; he says he has a garage full of trophies! I spent a
lot of time with him as he proudly described all the efforts he put
into this truck. This truck really does look a lot more expensive
than how much we are asking for it. That is the general consensus
amongst employees here at the museum. All this custom work, a frame
off restoration, and a crate 390 engine for under $60,000. Sounds
like a hell of a deal for a hell of a truck to me!
