Vehicle Description
This is a spectacularly original, all together, no modification,
fully operating & running 1962 Silver Cloud II. This is 6.2 litre
V8, the first V8 developed by Rolls-Royce and used in the Cloud
series II and going forward. The car was recently purchased from
the estate of a wealthy industrialist who, on a vacation in
Scotland with his family in 1982, purchased the car for the
holiday. He drove the car for some 350 miles around Scotland and
had her shipped back to Chicago thereafter. And not shipped in the
standard method but air-freighted back home. A very decadent move
back in the day. All this is documented. Upon ownership in the US
since then, the car has only travelled a few thousands miles but
meticulously maintained and always stored in his very large factory
premises. Mileage is a verifiable 37,200. The car has remained
completely original since. Never repainted, all original leather
interior, wood, carpets and because she was always stored,
completely rust and scale free. What adds to the originality is
that she is in such good presenting condition. One would expect a
Rolls-Royce this many years later to be in need of repaint and a
certain degree of refinishing but yet, she presents amazingly well.
Not perfect, with minor blemishes, but overall shiny, lustrous with
an interior that presents with the perfect amount of patina. The
leather has not even been dyed or touched up in any way. If you are
a purist and you like originality in all forms, this is the car for
you. It can only be described as spectacularly original. The car is
finished in Tudor grey over Pacific green with light sage-blue/grey
Connolly hides. The combination is not often seen and presents
beautifully. The car has the rare feature of air conditioning
integrated within the dash and factory electric windows. A deep red
fine-line accents the body-work and this too, is the factory
original striping. If the overall presentation wasn't enough, this
Silver Cloud II drives amazingly nice as well. Very tight in the
suspension, steering and gear-change. In fact, when we purchased
the car, I was able to drive her home some 50 miles effortlessly
and enjoyably. The car was clearly well maintained these last
40-odd years. She fires up on the first crank every time. This is a
true totally original 40-year storage find. Very well priced for a
extremely clean, original, very nice running & driving example of a
Silver Cloud II.
