Vehicle Description
The 2018 Porsche 718 is part of Porsche's mid-engine sports car
lineup, which includes two main models: the 718 Boxster
(convertible) and the 718 Cayman (coupe). Both models deliver a
blend of agile performance, luxury, and a more accessible price
point compared to the 911, but they still maintain Porsche's
high-performance DNA.
Key Highlights of the 2018 Porsche 718:
1. Engine and Performance
Turbocharged flat-four engines: In 2018, Porsche moved away from
naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines to turbocharged flat-four
engines.
718 Boxster / Cayman: 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four engine
producing 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.
718 Boxster S / Cayman S: 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine
producing 350 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission options: 6-speed manual or Porsche's 7-speed PDK
dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Acceleration:
The base models (with 2.0L engine) can do 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds
with the PDK and Sport Chrono package.
The "S" models (with 2.5L engine) reach 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds
with the PDK and Sport Chrono package.
Handling: The mid-engine layout provides balanced weight
distribution, making the 718 agile and sharp through corners.
2. Design
Exterior: Sleek, low-slung body with classic Porsche design cues.
The 718 is more compact compared to the larger 911, giving it a
more nimble profile.
Interior: High-quality materials, ergonomic layout, and options for
luxury and tech upgrades such as the Porsche Communication
Management (PCM) infotainment system, leather upholstery, and
more.
3. Features
Standard features include bi-xenon headlights, partial leather
upholstery, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Available options include adaptive suspension (PASM), Sports Chrono
Package (which adds launch control and dynamic transmission
mounts), navigation, Bose or Burmester sound systems, and heated
and ventilated seats.
4. Driving Experience
The 718 offers a driver-focused experience with precise steering
and strong brakes. It provides more torque at lower RPMs than the
previous six-cylinder models, resulting in better low-end
power.
While some enthusiasts miss the sound of the naturally aspirated
flat-six engines, the 718 still offers a thrilling performance
experience, especially with the added torque from the turbocharged
engines.
5. Fuel Economy
The base 718 Boxster and Cayman are rated at approximately 21 mpg
in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
The 718 "S" models get slightly lower mileage due to the more
powerful engine, averaging around 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.
