Vehicle Description
Introduced in 1955 as a replacement for the MG TF, the MGA brought
MG fully into the modern, post-war era. Its streamlined,
aerodynamic body design marked a dramatic departure from the
marque's traditional styling, giving the car a contemporary
appearance and significantly improving its performance. At its
heart was a 1,489-cc inline four-cylinder engine, topped with twin
SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
While its initial output of 68 horsepower (later increased to 72
horsepower) might seem modest by today's standards, the MGA's
lightweight construction-tipping the scales at just over 900
kilograms-made it both nimble and responsive. The MGA proved to be
a hit with customers both in England and abroad, with 13,000
examples sold in its first year of production. It featured a
conventional chassis with independent front suspension, a live rear
axle, and a design innovation where the frame rails flared outward
to allow for lower seat placement. Together, these features
contributed to a faster, more comfortable car that could compete
with its British contemporaries. This lovely 1958 MGA FHC is an
older restoration finished in the iconic colors of Old English
White over black leather. One of just 841 produced in 1959, it
wears a high quality, well-detailed restoration worthy of display
in club events or regional concours. The paint and brightwork are
in good condition, with only a few minor imperfections such as some
slight wear on the chrome and a few blemishes in the paint. The
rubber seals throughout are also in good condition, with the only
noteworthy flaw being at the vent windows. It rides on bright
chrome 60 spoke knock-off wire wheels fitted with modern radial
195x65 R15 tires to improve ride quality and handling. Stepping
into the cabin of this MGA, you are greeted by black leather seats
with white piping and nicely presented gray carpets. The padded
dashboard matches the exterior shade of Old English White,
retaining its original styling. The dash houses all the original
gauges, knobs, switches, and a banjo-style steering wheel, all
appropriately presented for a car that has been both driven and
enjoyed. Opening the bonnet reveals a detailed engine bay housing
the spirited 1,489 cc inline four-cylinder engine, appropriately
dressed using period correct hardware and fasteners. Paired with a
four-speed manual transmission, this powertrain delivers a driving
experience that is both engaging and rewarding. Its combination of
manageable power and agility makes this car a true joy to drive,
