1985 Ford F150 XLT Lariat. The XLT Lariat was the luxury-oriented
model of the 7th generation F-series and this one is particularly
well-optioned. In addition to all of the creature comforts, this
F150 is in amazing condition and boasts a mere 26,017 actual miles
on the odometer! Let's dig in and take a closer look at this
jaw-droppingly cool truck...
This F150 comes to us dressed in its original coat of Dark Canyon
Red paint with tasteful gold and black painted pinstriping accents
(we believe that the truck may have originally been ordered with
the pinstripes). The paint and the stripes are both in excellent
condition and are evidence of this truck's pampered life. There's
plenty to catch the eye up front with a vertical hood ornament, a
bright chrome grille that wraps around the square headlights turn
signals, a centered "Blue Oval" badge, and a bright chrome bumper
with bumperettes and a black rub-guard. Looking down the straight
sides reveals plenty of bright touches to grab the eye, with
clearance lights atop the cab, bright windshield trim, black chrome
body side molding, chrome window deflectors and door handles, door
edge molding, bright swing-out tow mirrors, "F150 XLT" fender
badging, and wheel lip molding. The cab corners both sport "Lariat"
badges and the back of the cab features a factory sliding rear
window with black and gold trim that matches the pinstriping.
Moving toward the back you'll see a style side bed with chrome bed
rails, a maroon vinyl snap-on bed cover, and dual gas fills on the
driver's side. Wrap-around taillights lead you around to the rear
where there is a gleaming rear step-bumper with diamond-plate top
and rub guard, a brushed aluminum overlay trim panel on the
tailgate, a red reflective band with bright "FORD" lettering, and 5
extra lights between the bumper and bottom of the tailgate. The bed
features a black rubber bed mat and rubber tailgate protector, and
in it are a new set of aftermarket aluminum cab steps, two rubber
floormats for inside the cab, a box with original speakers and
covers that have been replaced over time, and a factory-style jack.
Mounted under the bed is a full spare tire. While checking out the
spare, take some time to really look around at the immaculately
clean black-painted frame and floor - it is seriously impressive
under this truck! Sliding underneath this F150 is easy courtesy of
a Tuff Country E-Z Ride Suspension and lift kit. Topping it all off
is a set of 5-slot polished aluminum rally-style wheels with BF
Goodrich All Terrain Baja Champion T/A's on all four corners. Also
included with the sale of this truck are the original factory
Argent steel wheels with beauty rings and center caps (shod in BF
Goodrich tires) - nice!
Under the hood is a tidy bone-stock engine bay that's home to a 5.8
liter 351ci V-8. The high-output V-8 is topped off with factory
valve covers, a stock intake, a 4-barrel carburetor, and an air
cleaner with the correct "5.8ltr 4V HO" decal on top. Extras abound
with power steering, power brakes (disc/drum), a plug-in dual
engine block heater, and factory A/C. The strong V-8 is mated up to
a C6 3-speed automatic with a dual-range transfer case providing
4-wheel drive capability. Exhaust flows from cast manifolds through
a single muffler and exits through dual chrome exhaust tips behind
the passenger rear tire.
When you open the driver's door, the cab light and under-dash
lights pop on to illuminate a beautifully preserved Canyon Red
stock interior. The full OEM door panels are a mix of velour,
vinyl, carpet, and bright trim and they feature power locks, power
windows, a speaker, and a map pocket. Step up into the cab and
enjoy a comfortable seat on the flawless Canyon Red stitched vinyl
bench. Look down and find a stain-free factory carpet and a shifter
for the 4-wheel drive. Overhead is a tight-felt headliner and the
dual cab light. Directly ahead of the driver is a stock steering
wheel with "Finger-tip Speed Control" (cruise control) and a
working horn on a tilt column. The dash is in excellent condition
with no cracks or warping. Both the gauge bezel and the stereo/HVAC
bezel are dressed with attractive woodgrain trim that adds to the
luxurious aesthetic of the interior. The "Sport Instrumentation"
gauge cluster offers a speedometer and tachometer as well as
working gauges for fuel, temp, oil, and battery. Under the gauges
to the driver's left are controls for the lights and wipers. The
center dash starts up top with an XLT badge and a digital electric
clock beneath. Moving downward, you'll find a factory Ford
AM/FM/Cassette stereo that's easy to use and sounds great. Under
the stereo are controls for the cold factory A/C and hot heat
powered by a strong fan. On the right side of the HVAC control
panel is a switch that allows you to switch back and forth between
the main and auxiliary fuel tanks. There is a glovebox with a
working courtesy light on the passenger side of the dash that
contains a packet with the original window sticker, warranty
booklet with protect-o-plate, owners guide, maintenance schedule,
operating guide, "4-Wheeling with Ford" supplemental booklet, and
the Ford "SuperSeal" protection plan.
