The 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is a Cortez Silver masterpiece of
street/strip engineering, powered by a meticulously built 800hp,
Dart Big M 540 cubic inch V8. Topped with AFR CNC 345 cylinder
heads featuring 2.30-inch valves and Tooley valve springs, this
engine boasts a robust combination of power and reliability. The
rotating assembly is a fully balanced 4340 Eagle setup, complete
with a CCW crankshaft, H-beam rods, and JE 10.25:1 forged pistons,
ensuring compatibility with pump 91/93 octane fuel. A Comp Cams
mechanical roller valvetrain with roller lifters, Magnum steel
roller rockers, and an AFR stud girdle enhances precision and
durability.
Airflow is optimized with a Victor Jr. intake manifold and an FST
1050 Billet 4150 carburetor, while the Milidon oil pan and ATI
super damper ensure smooth operation. A Motion Raceworks billet
catch can system and March serpentine belt setup with a 140-amp
one-wire alternator add functionality and style. Cooling is managed
by an Edelbrock aluminum high-flow water pump, a Be Cool radiator,
and 3600 CFM twin Spal fans. The setup includes stainless 2
1/8-inch headers from Stainless Works, twin Walbro 340 fuel pumps,
PTFE stainless lines, and an Aeromotive regulator and filter for
efficient fuel delivery.
This Chevelles ignition system is a complete MSD setup, featuring a
Pro Billet distributor, 7AL-3 ignition box, and MSD coil, all
neatly wired under the dash. The body and engine wiring harnesses
are custom-designed and professionally installed. Finishing touches
include Billet Specialties black valve covers, ARP hardware
throughout, and a Motion Raceworks billet catch can system. This
build combines show-stopping aesthetics with the heart of a beast,
ready to dominate on the street or strip.
The 1972 Chevelle SS boasts a finely tuned suspension and
drivetrain to match its monstrous power. Double adjustable Viking
shocks on both the front and rear provide precise control and
adaptability, while tubular upper and lower control arms ensure
enhanced handling and stability. The steering is powered by a CPP
system featuring a Borgeson box for smooth and responsive input.
The braking system is entirely new, with front disc brakes and rear
drums delivering reliable stopping power.
At the rear, a robust 12-bolt housing features Strange internals, a
4.10 Posi ( 3.55 gear option is available), and an aluminum
differential cover with a girdle for added durability. The
drivetrain includes 35-spline axles, billet differential and
driveshaft yokes, and a 3.5-inch steel driveshaft for handling high
torque loads. A Turbo 400 transmission equipped with a deep
aluminum pan, an SFI-approved bellhousing, and a 9.5-inch torque
converter with a 3500 stall ensures smooth and robust
performance.
The frame and floors are in excellent condition, showcasing the
meticulous attention to detail that went into this build. Whether
on the strip or cruising the street, this Chevelle is engineered to
deliver uncompromising performance.
