For Sale: 1954 MG TF in Henderson, Nevada

Vehicle Description

The MG TF represents the end of MG's venerable T-Series. The TF roadster brought a more modern take to the TD by being 3 inches lower and sporting a sloping grill and faired-in headlights. The cars dashboard was redesigned, with central octagon gauges. Wire wheels were offered for the first time since the MG TC.

Everyone that loves cars has at one time or another wanted the "MG" experience even if it was just getting a chance to drive one. Some will never admit it, but the truth is, MG's are the starting point of modern day European Sports Car passion in this country starting with returning WW II GI's importing TC's. The Lend Lease Agreement between the US and Great Britain added fuel to the fire and MG's were the first commercially successful import opening the door for example to Volkswagen's be imported in the early 50's.

This is a TF model, the third edition of basically a similar concept but bigger, faster and much more comfortable than the TC's.

History of this car:
The last owner of the car bought it 50 years ago in 1974 from a porcelain artist in California. The buyer wanted a project that he and his 14 year old son would work on together. The car was in excellent condition except for being weathered by the sun and gray in color. Not a lot needed to be done to the car except for cleaning and paint. They wanted Chromed Spoke Wheels, but no one was making them at the time. They took the wheels apart, buffed the spokes in a lathe with emery cloth and then had Peco Wheel and Tire assemble the wheels. The interior was turned over to a local upholsterer who did a really nice job with the interior in a light brown leather.

The car ran great when they got it fifty years ago and no mechanical issues were found in the day. The transmission was rebuilt in 1974, but the only serious work done was the head, rebuilt about 10 years ago. The speedometer was zeroed when the first work was done starting 50 years ago and about 3400 miles have been added since 1974. The best body shop in Glendale was hired with instructions that no bondo be used, that all of the dents or marks be worked out. The body was not removed before the work or paint.

After 45 years of smooth operation, the Carburetors were completely rebuilt in 2023 with new bushings and shafts, less than 100 miles ago.

The owner opted for a set of Brookline style windscreens about 10 years ago. The stock radiator was replaced by a Ron Davis Racing Aluminum radiator. As the car was never driven in the rain there was no down-side to the change of windscreens.

The paint has just recently been restored top and bottom and the car is fully serviced. Please look through all the photos at www.atomicmotors.net
