Initially introduced at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show following seven long years of development and teases in the form of concepts in 2001 and 2005, the R35 GT-R is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated Nissans ever produced, the sixth-generating GT-R (model designation R35) was the first GT-R offered to the worldwide market. Despite its predecessor's supercar-beating reputation, the R35 managed to stun critics and enthusiasts with its immense performance potential and relative ease of use.
In addition to its performance, Nissan ensured every R35 left the factory in superlative condition. Engines were hand-built over 8.3 hours by one of only five mechanics deemed fit to do so by the company - initial cars were rated at 473hp, though yearly improvements increased this number. The rest of the car received similar attention to detail. Over its production run (which only ended October 2024), the R35 has been offered in numerous variants and special varieties.
One of the most notable standard production versions of the R35 is the NISMO. First announced in 2013, the NISMO GT-R introduced advancements from the GT-R racing program to the street car. New aerodynamics with a large rear wing paired with a specially tuned suspension offered optimized handling thanks to an additional 220lbs of downforce over the standard car. Inside, owners are treated to an Alcantara/leather-lined cabin featuring Recaro seats and plenty of amenities. While any R35 is a special machine, NISMO models are some of the most desirable for their rarity and extreme performance.
