This 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster was completed on April 5, 1957. It
was originally fitted with engine number 65073 and transmission
number 13944, both matching numbers that remain in the Speedster
today. It is a US example imported by Hoffman Motor Company in New
York with sealed beam headlights and USA bumpers. It was originally
finished with a white exterior and a red interior.
In 1965 the Speedster was purchased by a well-known executive from
NBC who kept the 356 at his Greenwich, Connecticut home until his
passing in 2017. During his fifty-two years with the car, he
actively participated in Porsche Club of America events when time
permitted. Over the years, all necessary service items were tended
to, and the 356 was never left to sit for exceedingly long periods.
In the early 1990s, Heritage Automotive Restorations Ltd. of
Pawling, New York was commissioned to do a full restoration. It was
during this restoration that the car was painted red.
After the owner's passing in 2017, the car was moved to Southern
California where it lived with family until being sold to European
Collectibles in 2024. During that seven-year period, it also saw
regular use and regular maintenance by RS Enterprises of Ventura,
California.
After being purchased by European Collectibles, the paint and
chrome were polished and found to be quite good thanks to careful
storage. The undercarriage is original and was fully stripped to
steel, and reshot with German Wurth undercoat and the suspension
was detailed. The wheels were repainted silver, new tires mounted,
and the interior and top were redone. The mechanical systems were
tuned and inspected. We are excited to offer this Speedster from a
long-term owner, with documentation, matching number drivetrain,
and original body panels.
