We are excited to offer this exceptional and well-documented 1967
Sunbeam Tiger MK1a. This car has remained with its original owner
throughout its entire life in a small town in southwestern
Michigan. Purchased new in 1969 from Camps Cars in Midland,
Michigan, by James Mayhak, the vehicle was carefully kept under his
ownership until his recent passing. We acquired the car from his
wife, who can no longer live independently. James' children shared
fond memories with us, recounting family road trips and local
cruises. Interestingly, most people in the town never even knew he
owned the car. Interestingly, James was actually my Father Inlaws
drivers-ed teacher.
This Sunbeam Tiger remains incredibly original, from the engine and
braking system to the vinyl accents. It's a true time capsule,
complete with a vintage removable stereo and a CB radio. We're
thrilled to pass this special car on to its next appreciative
owner.
Exterior:
The body of this Tiger is exceptionally solid and incredibly
straight. From the original pinch welds to the panel gaps, every
aspect of this car is aligned perfectly. It was repainted within
the last 20 years in its original Carnival Red, and the trim,
bumpers, and all hardware are in excellent condition. The hood
features a tasteful scoop, flawlessly painted to match the car. The
glass is in great condition, with no noticeable scratches. The top
remains in excellent shape and appears to be the original material.
We also have the original soft boot and tonneau cover.
The paint job still shines beautifully, with only a few minor
touch-ups that are nearly impossible to spot. The wheels are
date-stamped '66, original to the car, and fitted with a new set of
tires. The emblems are in great condition and remain clear. The
doors open and close with precision, and the trunk pops open
effortlessly. The exterior of this car is simply stunning. We also
have the original front license plate bracket.
Interior:
The interior remains fully original, from the seat materials to the
carpeting. The steering wheel is in excellent condition, and the
dashpad is crack-free and well-preserved. All gauges are functional
and display clearly. While we have the two original Rootes emblems
that were removed for the installation of aftermarket Stuart Warner
Volt and Vacuum Gauges, we opted to leave them in place as we
really like the gauges. The removable Sony radio is a great
period-correct touch, as is the CB radio, which works
properly-though the transistor radio currently doesn't power up.
The original carpets are in great shape considering their age, and
the seats are excellent with only minor wear on the driver's
bolster. The original shifter remains in place and functions
properly. The dashboard face looks fantastic, and all switches and
toggles operate smoothly. The wipers, horn, lights, and heater all
work as they should, and the heat control biases move smoothly. The
door cards appear original and are in excellent condition. We also
have the original spring-loaded removable visors. There are no
unwanted odors inside the cabin. The trunk is completely dry, even
under the fuel tanks. The original lower panel is in great
condition, and the cupboards are intact. The original tool kit is
present, as well as the spare tire, which is date-matched to the
car. Overall, the interior is a reflection of the car's original,
fantastic condition.
Underhood and Underbody:
Under the hood is the original Ford 260 V8, which we've confirmed
to have a build date predating the car itself. It retains its
matching valve cover decal, and all signs point to this being the
original engine delivered with the car (as we were told). The
engine bay shows a lot of originality, from the air cleaner down.
We've had the carburetor completely rebuilt and fitted with a new,
reusable air filter. Both the Girling brake and clutch masters have
been rebuilt, and the entire braking system has been thoroughly
serviced. The calipers have new pistons, and the system now
includes new flexible brake lines. The rear wheel cylinders are
also new, and the car is equipped with fresh brake shoes. The
shocks on all four corners are brand new. The fuel tanks were
removed and professionally cleaned, and the fuel line has been
replumbed to the pump. The underside of the car is in excellent
shape with solid metal components. The frame is strong and intact,
and it's worth noting that James reinforced the X-section of the
frame for added strength, which was a common rust-prone area. All
bushings are intact, and the suspension components feel tight and
roadworthy. The factory exhaust system is perfectly aligned and
exits the car at the stock locations. The overall condition under
the hood and underneath the car is consistent with the rest of the
vehicle, showing minimal alterations and maintaining its original
integrity. On the Road:
The 260 V8 starts easily, even when cold, and settles into a smooth
idle. It revs freely and sounds great...for more information please
