The Studebaker manufacturing company was based in Indiana and
founded in 1852. At this time the Studebaker family were considered
coachbuilders that constructed buggies, carriages, etc. They would
eventually enter the automotive business and many credit them with
being far ahead of their time. They would eventually merge with
Packard before going defunct in 1967. They applied the Commander
name to their mainstream products and the first time it was used
was back in 1927. They became quite the collector car with entire
clubs being dedicated to their preservation specifically and due to
their discontinuation they have become harder and harder to find
over the years. This Commander is the 116.5in wheel base Deluxe 2
door coupe model. It is in good condition and appears to have been
cosmetically restored in the past. It is painted in a nice two tone
Cream color with the roof and rear deck being painted White. When
you think of cars of the 50's and compare them to the Commander it
becomes clear how unique the design was. It still had smaller
classic fins but up front had a sloped fully chromed out nosepiece.
All of the bright work on the car is in excellent condition
including the full length stainless trim pieces. The glass on it is
all cleanly mounted in place and in good condition throughout. The
original style wheels are painted to match the car and is fitted
with stock Studebaker hubcaps with American Classic wide white wall
radial tires (P195/75R15).
Under the hood of the car is the Studebaker 259ci Bearcat motor
that runs great. It is fitted with a 4 barrel carburetor, dual
exhaust and is paired with a 2 speed automatic transmission. To
keep it cooling properly the car has been upgraded with a Wizard
Cooling aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. The car also
features air conditioning and power steering which makes it a nice
easy cruiser.
The interior is in great condition and was done in a Brown cloth
and White vinyl upholstery. It has a split bench seat with seat
belts up front and a full bench in rear. The door panels,
headliner, and carpet is all there and looks good. The dash is all
cleanly painted and utilizes a lot of the stock trim but has been
upgraded with a digital stereo and underdash AC/heat unit. The
gauges/switches are stock but some switches have been modified to
now control the electric fans and electric fuel pump. It also has
an added temp gauge hidden below the original gauge pod. The trunk
is all carpeted in Black and stores a spare with matching
cover.
This is a super unique classic that would make a great addition to
any collection. If you want a smooth running vintage car that will
always stand out at shows, look no further.
It is being offered up for the very reasonable $25,750.00!
