Vehicle Description
2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 3LZ Coupe
The history of the Z06 can be traced to 1963 when Zora
Arkus-Duntov, a racing enthusiast among other things, convinced the
suits at GM to offer an option package for the racing community.
RPO code Z06 was introduced and only 199 of them were sold in 1963.
After a 40 year gap, the Z06 was reintroduced into the Corvette
line and offered performance enhancements from the factory, and
this continued and mushroomed with each generation, from C5 on.
For consignment, a 2016 Corvette Z06 3LZ couple with a title
verified 4,537 actual miles, a well optioned car with a long list
of mods that puts this beast at a dyno'd 850 horsepower on 93
octane and 1000+ horsepower on E85. Men have been chasing faster
speeds and more power since the days of running from saber toothed
tigers. This Vette is the modern iteration of a velociraptor on
steroids, a fast and powerful predator of the street.
Exterior
Two stage Blade Silver Metallic sets the base here, but the real
story begins with two of several choice packages selected when the
car was ordered, the visible carbon fiber package and the Z06
appearance package. The box was also checked for yellow brake
calipers and the combination of these packages is like a pile of
presents under the Christmas tree, each one adding to the complete
badassery of the car. That gaping front intake is underscored by a
carbon fiber chin spoiler, complemented by the carbon fiber hood
bulge behind the heat extracting vents. This car has more scoops
than Baskin Robbins with brake cooling ducts on the rear quarters
and more on the shoulder beside the fixed quarter windows. A
translucent rear wing rises above clear lens tail lights, a Z06
field mark, and four massive exhaust ports exiting in the center
and the ribbed accents on tail seem to have gained inspiration from
the Cylon helmets of Battlestar Galactica and have a similar,
sinister stare. 35 series tires wrap around 18-inch front and
19-inch rear wheels with ten polished spokes that look like a
Chinese throwing star. The only imperfections are an area flex
cracking down low, and some curb scuffs and displacement of the
splash guard where it meets the chin spoiler.
Interior
Kalahari leather, a shade of saddle brown, mixes with formed black
plastic on the door to begin our dramatic view of the interior, and
the black leather header has saddle stitching. Corvette puts
criticism of seat design to sleep with the C7's saddle buckets,
here with racing harness openings on top, lined in carbon fiber, of
course, which finishes the instrument cluster, a space age design
topped by more saddle leather. The steering wheel is just this side
of F1 with the paddles, buttons, and controls available. Moving
north to south in the center gives you a screen with navigation and
a back up camera and a sound system that is Bluetooth, XM, MyLink,
CarPlay capable and has a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Sliding
down, we find a sleek shifter in a piano black faceplate and raised
on walls of saddle leather. Black loop carpet on the floor is
perfect, covered by mats, and the panoramic roof mutes the blue sky
above and allows in gentle light and a body colored panel also
comes with the car and is stowed in the hatch area.
Drivetrain
A gleaming intercooler and supercharger highlight the appearance of
the powerplant, a 6.2 liter LT4 V8. Added to the potent factory
engine are a Procharger F1X, an air-to-water intercooler with
charge pipe, a stage 2 supercharger cam, and a Mighty Mouse catch
can. The tuned EFI includes Holley Dominator EFI management for
supplemental fuel, water, and the meth injection kit. All of these
ingredients bake a cake that's good for 850+ horsepower on 93
octane and 1000+ hp on E85. It's backed up by an 8L90E 8-speed
automatic transmission with a BTR converter, transferring a herd of
horses to the rear wheels and 2.73 gears with limited slip. Brembo
ceramics are on board as power disc brakes fill every wheel.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath with a plethora of belly pans and aluminum plates
to increase aerodynamics. SLA independent suspension is enhanced by
the Z06 performance suspension package, the Z07 suspension and
magnetic ride control. Dual exhaust runs tandem down the center and
ends by encountering the OEM mufflers just before four trumpet-like
tips.
Drive-Ability
Arm wrestling. Sprint contest. Drawing straws. It doesn't matter,
here at Classic Auto Mall only one person is assigned to testing
and all the bribery in the world wouldn't buck him from that
position. And so it goes, the mighty Z06 low mileage anomaly runs
the test loop and flying colors and Corvette comfort backed by
unimaginable power underfoot. Stay out of it and it is streetable,
but a Prancing Horse, a Raging Bull, and a Cat from Hell can all
wave bye bye to the clear tail lights if push comes to shove,
(legally, and on a track, of course). All functions in this high
tech, high power rocket ship work as they should. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
Take a factory C7 Z06 and add nearly every possible option and
performance and appearance mod you can find, and create not a
Frankenstein, but a machine that would make SpaceX blush. It may
not be one of a kind, but it has to be a rare combination of
components that make this 2016 Corvette completely out of the
ordinary, noteworthy, and collectible. File this under "when 650
horsepower just isn't enough," and if this is the build you've been
dreaming about, contact the mall today. It's a push button project
that just needs a new pilot.
