1985 Toyota Pickup 4x4
1987 22RTE swap
4-cylinder turbo, EFI
255,000 miles
4.88 gears and locking hubs
Long bed (7 ft)
This has been my daily driver and offroad vehicle for the last several years. Absolutely love everything about it. It will run forever if you take care of it. Selling because my family is expanding and I need something with more airbags and seats.
Truck was built out and owned by a mechanic that owns a shop which specializes in Toyotas. There have been four owners, including myself, with almost all of the work completed by the same shop. I track my mileage and the rig can get up to 28mpg if you’re really careful. The low gears and suspension will clear pretty much any obstacle. Bottom line is that this truck will get you anywhere you want.
What makes this truck the only one like it to exist:
Solid axle
5-speed manual
Long rage fuel tank (28 gal. and passes ca smog)
Electric windows and locks
Electronic cruise control
7 foot bed
Flippac (supposedly the only one the company made for this truck)
Auxiliary battery on frame
Welded front hitch
More:
Repainted frame
Custom front LED light bars connected to high beams
Old Man Emu suspension
Custom front leaf springs
Rebuilt top end at 231,000 miles
New turbo at 200,000 miles
New interior carpet
Items added in the last few years:
LX470 wheels that fit hub-centric (matching full size spare mounted underneath)
33” MTs
Mountain Hatch tail gate
New blower motor
Back up camera connected to reverse gear
Bluetooth radio
Larger alternator
New headlights
New front bumper
Rear pod lights connected to reverse gear
Snap-on window insulation for camper shell
New horn
Camper shell:
If you’re unfamiliar with Flippac camper shells, that’s because the company no longer exists. The system is super easy to use, has great ventilation, and more space than any other folding shell I’ve seen. You get 7 feet of sleeping platform with a built in mattress, and can still stand with plenty of head room in the entire truck bed. Comes with a sturdy rain fly that’s fits the entire tent. As for weight capacity of the platform, we’ve slept two large adults and a dog without issue.
Bed storage:
The truck bed itself had a storage system when I bought it, which I never took out. Added custom cushions, some struts to the panels, and snap-on reflective insulation for the side windows. Those windows are sliders, with a mesh layer to keep out pests.
Also comes with a removable Warn winch that mounts to front or rear hitch. Works best at the front.
Small issues:
Some rust showing by rear bumper and passenger door seal
Clear coat fading on hood and roof. Paint still in tact though.
Auxiliary battery getting old and could be replaced.
AC needs freon
Passenger door key entry broken
Spare parts included:
Mirrors, sixth matching rim, extra hardware for the Flippac, spare keys for car and shell
