Vehicle Description
1985 Chevrolet K10 Long Bed Pickup
The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern
era with its C/K series lineup. The "C" designation identified two
wheel drive pickups, and the "K" identified 4X4s. The most common
pickup was the C10, a half ton truck with a 6.5 or 8-foot cargo
box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same vehicle
during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when the
1998 Silverado replaced it.
For consignment, a 1985 Chevrolet K10 long bed pickup truck showing
94,465 miles but the actual miles are unknown. Don't let the rough
exterior fool you into complacency, this ol' girl is packing a Gen
III 5.3 liter V8 and rides on 18-inch wheels with LT load rated
tires. Here's one you can drive without worry, use as an actual
truck, and still fit in at cruise night.
Exterior
Genuine patina mars the outside in sun beat style, particularly on
the shoulder line where rust spots and peeling blotchy paint
present like a beautiful abstract painting on a light blue paint
canvas. But this is a mixed media kind of art because parts are
also painted in smooth satin black over the top of the cab and the
lower panel over less than razor sharp sheet metal. 18-inch black 8
spoke wheels add a sinister edge to the truck which has a diamond
plate rear bumper and a front chrome bumper in stand out condition.
There's some funky red pinstriping on the hood, over the stacked
headlights and vertical grated grille that helps define this era of
trucks known affectionately as the square bodies!
Interior
More patina inside with a cornucopia of colors, materials, and
patterns on the door panels which include plaid cloth, blue carpet,
molded plastic, and vinyl pockets. The bench seat is in great
condition and is a mix of blue plaid cloth and black vinyl borders.
Up front, the standard steering wheel leads to the standard
instrument cluster based in textured black plastic with canted
sides for the driver's view. A crack in the dash pad seems fitting
here but overall, the interior is in decent shape, including the
floor mounted shifter in a plaid boot over a nice blue carpet. An
AM/FM radio is on board, and we suggest some country tunes to go
along with this country truck.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, a 5.3 liter V8 with an FiTech EFI controlling the
fuel injection. A remanufactured Jasper 4L80E 4-speed automatic
transmission backs it up and nearly every component in the bay has
been replaced including serpentine belt, alternator, thermostat,
water pump, fan clutch, and heater hoses. Both axles are 10 bolt
units and power brakes are on board with front disc and rear
drum.
Undercarriage
Fairly clean underneath, driver quality, with areas of surface
rust, some flaking rust on the frame, but no other invasive rust.
The pans look dry and so does the rest of the underside including
wheel and brake components. Dual exhaust runs through stock style
mufflers before exiting behind each rear wheel via non fancy
straight steel pipes. Leaf springs suspension is utilized front and
rear.
Drive-Ability
Riding high on the 18's, this truck provides a bird's eye view of
the road and the fuel injected V8 starts right up and propels us
onto the test loop where good acceleration was reported, straight
tracking, and as usual with square bodies, great visibility. Items
that could use some attention include the driver's power lock which
doesn't work, the power windows are slow, the wipers don't self
park, the speedometer is stuck at 35 mph, and the odometer is not
working. The remaining functions all work as intended. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
It's a dream! A classic truck with a reliable swap, good power,
nice wheels, and lots of attention to detail on the mechanical
side. 1985 doesn't seem like that long ago and this writer grew up
in the desert where K10's were more common than just about
anything. They were used and abused and put away wet. Survivors are
now classic and uncommon and finding one without a pristine show
truck paint job is like finding a treasure!
