1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS L78 396 4-Speed
This 1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS L78 is powered by a 396/375 HP V8
(only 835 L78s were produced in 1969) linked with a Muncie
four-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in dusk blue
over black vinyl upholstery. The car was refurbished in the early
2000s. The engine block bears the suffix stamp JD, and casting
numbers, date codes, and partial vin numbers are present. The dusk
blue exterior is finished nicely with a black split grille and
tailgate panel, and details include a twin-dome hood, quad
headlights, SS 396 badging, and chrome wheel arch trim. Steel 14?
Super Sport wheels wear chrome trim rings and are mounted with
Goodyear red-stripe tires. A full-size spare is stowed behind the
passenger seat. Front discs and rear drums provide braking. The
vehicle came equipped from the factory with a heavy-duty
suspension. The bench seat is trimmed in black vinyl and fitted
with headrests and lap belts. The two-spoke SS-branded steering
wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and warning
lights. Further details include SS badging on the dashboard and
door panels, a Muncie shifter, vent windows, and an FM radio.
Additional photos of casting numbers are shown in the gallery.
Documentation sheets are only provided in photos.
The El Camino was introduced in 1959, but production was suspended
at the end of 1960. In 1964, the El Camino was reintroduced on the
smaller A-Body platform, also used by Malibu and Chevelle. In
typical Chevrolet fashion, the El Camino could be custom-tailored
by the client with a broad range of options, engines,
transmissions, and accessories to make it uniquely their own. With
only 835 L78s produced this big-block 4-speed 1969 El Camino SS L78
is highly collectible and rare. These limited-production muscle
cars from the 60s & 70s continue to age and the sky's the limit on
what it could be worth to the right collector. Give LRA a call at
