Vehicle Description
This R-Type sport saloon is one of 2323, which were produced
between 1952 and 1955. It is a very rare left hand drive, one of
only fifty produced. The car is equipped with a factory automatic
transmission and sunroof. It comes with factory build sheets,
owner's manual, tool kit, and extensive restoration and mechanical
history with invoices as detailed below.
Power is derived from an iron-block/aluminum-head straight-six
motor with twin SU Type H6 carburetors mated to an automatic
four-speed transmission. The motor displaces 4,566 ccs with a 92mm
bore and 114.3mm stroke.
Finished in sand over sable with maroon leather, fawn headliner,
Wilton carpets and refinished wood trim, the car looks extremely
elegant. The condition of the interior is exceptional.
We sold this car in 2009 to a museum in the Middle East, where it
was on display, and it has only been driven 50 miles since. We
recently purchased it back and found that B102LYD has excellent
mechanics, no leaky seals, and drives beautifully
It is one of the most documented cars we've ever owned. There are
over $40,000 in receipts for restoration and service including a
complete engine rebuild, refinished wood, upholstery, carpets, and
headliner. This work was done by Proper Motorcars Inc, St.
Petersburg, FL, overseen by the Rolls-Royce expert Dale Powers. The
restoration was completed August 2002; the milage was 91,925,
approximately 8000 miles ago.
We have documented owners, starting with the initial purchase by
the Rudel Machinery Co. for John Rudel of Montreal, Canada,
delivered on 9/10/54. Others we know of are: 9/24/79, Michael
Leventhal of Chicago; 12/82, Myrel and Ginger Gordon of Chicago;
1986, Mike Ziegler of Allentown, PA; 2001, Donald Bergsma of
Clearwater, FL: 2009, Charles Crail: and June 2009, a museum in the
Middle East until purchased again this year by Crail.
