You may not be aware that Ford made an R-code 428 Cobra Jet F100
back in the day, and rightfully so.. Because they didn't! But if
they had, this is undoubtedly what it would have looked like.
The coveted, factory produced, R-code Cobra Jet cars, famously
dominating stock car and drag racing events in the '60s were a
force to be reckoned with thanks to their no nonsense, all business
builds powered by Fords most powerful engine of the time - the 428
Cobra Jet V8. CJ cars were delivered to select race teams in a
simple white body with minimal trim, dog dish hubcaps, and devoid
of power robbing options under the hood. The vision for this F100
build was to replicate that same formula, but this time in truck
form. And even the most decerning Ford enthusiast will have to
admit - they nailed it!
Starting with a very solid truck, the body was removed from the
chassis and stripped to bare metal. Only portions of the floor pans
needing replaced to bring it back to rust free condition. With the
body removed, the frame was also stripped bare and allowed direct
access to the suspension for an easy overhaul. The factory 6
cylinder engine was tossed to make way for a strong custom built
428 Cobra Jet V8. And when we say strong, we mean 492 dyno-proven
horsepower strong! Of course, that meant the rest of the drivetrain
needed to be reinforced to accommodate the newfound power, so a
stout C6 automatic transmission and new Ford 9in rear axle were
chosen to handle the load. Wide rear wheels and tires aid in the
traction department and give it a broad, muscular look.
True to R-code form, Wimbledon white covers the expertly massaged
body. The truck's straight lines and excellent panel alignment
stand as true testaments to the great attention to detail that has
gone into this build. Color matched steel wheels and the requisite
stainless steel dog dish hubcaps let you know the truck is all
business.
Inside the F100 stays true to its rugged form with a fully restored
bench seat and rubber floor liner. Modern touches such as updated
gauges, tilt steering, and a sport steering wheel expertly blend in
with the trucks timeless styling.
You don't have to be Ford enthusiast to love this truck but be
prepared to be approached by all those that are! Call us today to
make it yours!
