Vehicle Description
1996 Ford Bronco XLT
The Ford Bronco is a model line of sport utility vehicles
manufactured and marketed by Ford. The first SUV model developed by
the company; five generations of the Bronco were sold from the 1966
to 1996 model years. A sixth generation of the model line has
reemerged for the 2021 model year. Originally developed as a
compact off road vehicle using its own chassis, the Bronco
initially competed against the Jeep CJ-5 and International
Harvester Scout. For 1978, Ford enlarged the Bronco, making it a
short wheelbase version of the F-Series pickup truck; the full size
Bronco competed against the K5 Blazer and Ramcharger. Following a
decline in demand for large two door SUVs, Ford discontinued the
Bronco after the 1996 model year, replacing it with the four door
Expedition; followed by the larger Excursion.
For consignment, a well cared for and meticulously maintained
truck, well a station wagon. A 1996 Ford Bronco in Dark Toreador
Red Metallic over Silver Frost Metallic and we have a real visual
winner that would make even O.J. Simpson proud. Purchased and
enjoyed by our consignor, the second owner, and never having seen
rain and always being garage kept, it's time to pass the capable
SUV on. Sporting new tires, relatively low miles, (93,713 title
verified actual), and a beautiful yet functional new cloth
interior, this SUV is ready to handle whatever mountains you may
want to climb and even has ample room so you can bring all your
unmentionables on the trek.
Exterior
Very clean and a good factory applied paint job covered with Silver
Frost Metallic on the center of the slab sided SUV on this 2-door
XLT edition. The upper and lower body is dipped in a miles deep
coating of Dark Toreador Red Metallic and shows very nicely, without
a hint of rust, even on the wheel arches, rear quarter lowers and
bottom of the doors and tailgate. A dark red top is installed, and
what many people don't realize is this top is still removable,
albeit requiring many a T40 tamper proof Torx bit. Badging and
chrome is correct and in excellent condition. Like new knobby
265/75R15 blackwall radials are on all 4 corners and wrap large
powder coated wheels with locking hubs. A swing away spare is
behind the tailgate which has a power window.
Interior
2 overstuffed charcoal gray cloth buckets flank a large center
console with a glove box large enough to almost fit a small
suitcase! A cloth rear bench which will fold down expanding the
already spacious cargo area is installed behind the buckets. The
driver's bucket has a powered lumber support and the cloth shows
only minor compression and wrinkling, but certainly no tears or
burns, as this has always been a smoke free rig. Up front, the dash
setup is standard Ford fare with warm charcoal plastic with black
inserts. The factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo remains installed and
power windows, power mirrors, and power locks are noted by their
buttons in the doors. Cruise control is on the steering wheel. Good
quality carpeting, in charcoal gray color, is covering the
floor.
Drivetrain
The original 5.8 Liter 351ci V8 with an automatic E40D 4-speed
transmission attached is under the OEM hood. Putting power to the
ground are 3.55 conventional axle assemblies both front and
rear.
Undercarriage
Clean, some surface rust showing on the suspension components but
all else shows very nicely, a definite nod to the carethisBronco
has been treated to. Coil springs and radius arms for the front
long with leaf springs on the rear provide the ride. We see front
power disc and rear power drum brakes to give us stopping power
while a stock style single exhaust system with a single muffler
sends spent fossils out the back of this SUV.
Drivability
I needed a short step stool to climb into this truck, a sharp mind
but terrible knees here, and I was greeted with mid 90's Ford
comfort. Performance was adequate on all fronts and all functions
were working splendidly. While Classic Auto Mall represents that
these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we
cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of
your purchase.
A well preserved SUV with fastidious maintenance, low miles, and no
rust. It has good gaps, the factory paint, a few very minor faults,
it does not appear as a 28 year old vehicle. Well cared for and
runs nicely with plenty of power if you want to hook something fun
up to it. This one won't last!!!
