The most recent owner of this 1963 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia car for sale purchased the car twelve years ago. Shortly after their purchase, they commissioned a restoration of the car that, up to that point, had spent most of its life in Georgia.
The restoration relied on a bare metal car repainted in bright red with a contrasting white roof. The restoration used modern gray cloth upholstery instead of black vinyl. It features bright red piping for a stylish look.
They upgraded the old AM radio. It now has new technology and includes an FM band. Passengers can enjoy listening to it through the modern dual cone speaker set into this Karmann Ghia’s dash space.
They replaced the old 36 horsepower engine with a newer 1500cc one, which should produce about 50 horsepower. They also upgraded the electrical system of the Karmann Ghia to 12 volts. The car now starts quickly, drives smoothly, and has a strong clutch for easy transmission engagement.
While Rudy was at the 2024 New Hope Auto Show, this 1963 Karmann Ghia for sale caught his eye. The owner, who had the car restored for the past 12 years, provided over 200 pictures of the restoration of this Karmann Ghia sourced from Georgia.
As you’ll see, the paint on this Karmann Ghia for sale is beautiful. The car has an upgraded cloth interior with red piping. The engine is a later model 1500 cc single port.
This VW Karmann Ghia for sale is a nice little unit. It tracks straight and brakes well with the original drum brakes. It shifts nicely, and the clutch is nice and tight.
This Karmann Ghia car is an excellent driver-quality example that’s stunningly pretty. During our short ownership, we replaced the rear axle boots to resolve a leaking transmission, replaced the passenger side heater control cable, properly patched the rear floorboards, and eliminated the small holes we noticed when we purchased the car.
Another detail we like about this Karmann Ghia Coupe for sale is the restorer’s wheel selection. Instead of using fancy Empi or Porsche Fuchs wheels, the restorer painted the original steel wheels white on the car. Chrome VW hub caps set off the look, which ties well with this Karmann Ghia’s matching white roof. We may elect to add trim rings at a later date, but for now, the car looks great.
The engine bay of this Karmann Ghia for sale is in nice shape, but it could use a bit more detailing if a buyer plans to enter this Karmann Ghia in local car shows.
