OFFERING A RARE 1971 OLDSMOBILE CUSTLASS SUPREME "SX", Y79 CODE #'s Matching 455 V8, TH400 AUTO TRANS wearing its born in "Matador Red" exterior color and Black interior and showing 33,106 on the odometer (TMU). This is a rare bird with very few made and if you have not heard of one PLEASE see the pics at the end of our gallery to read the article written by Hemmings! It is very hard to identify a "SX" as there is no decoding of the vin or cowl tag to identify (which is what GM intended to do to keep the drivetrain under the insurance radar). In short... Oldsmobile made a special Y79 package called "SX" that encompassed all the muscle car things available in 71 to allow you to run with the big dogs of years gone by...without the 442 badge causing inflated insurance rates. This car has the 455 ci numbers matching drivetrain confirming it as a "SX" as this motor was offered in one of two ways in 1971.... either in a Oldsmobile "442" car OR a Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme "SX" period. This car has the proper #'s matching drivetrain as well as the trumpet exhaust/rear bumper which were unique to the SX package so it is a true SX as per verification by Alan Reedy of the Official 455SX club. This one still retains its factory AM/FM 8 Track radio and is also a A/C car as well (not working) so is highly optioned for 1971. Hinting at performance this car had is the SX badging on the fenders and the chrome exhaust trumpet cut outs in the rear bumper (ala 4-4-2) but that was about the only sign of the iron being pumped under that flat hood (we are aware the hood is from a Cutlass S, no harm no foul here). Of course it took the Turbo Hydro-matic 400 transmission to handle the power...proper trans as verified by the attached trans tag.
