While typically overshadowed by its larger, more powerful, and significantly more expensive older sibling (the 300 SL), the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is no less important to the company's history. Instead of the complicated, racing-derived tubular spaceframe used in the 300 SL, the 190 SL utilized a modified floor-pan of the W121 sedan. A new Inline-4 based on the 300 SL's six-cylinder motor's design but without its complicated direct fuel injection system provided 120hp.
With styling directly derived from the 300 SL, the new car attracted plenty of attention in and out of showrooms. Unlike the 300 SL, the 190 SL was only ever offered as a convertible, though buyers looking for a coupe-like experience could order a removable hardtop. As a more "lifestyle" oriented car, the 190 SL was (and is) a far more livable driving companion than a 300 SL. Today, the 190 SL is recognized for its phenomenal good looks and easy driving experience, making it the perfect choice for any discerning collector.
The stunning 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster featured here is finished in striking Light Red over a Tan leather interior with a matching convertible top and a rare factory removable hardtop. This exquisite motorcar was just released from a world-class collection where it is been beautifully restored and is now ready for its next caretaker. With great pride we offer what we believe to be one of the very best 190 SLs to come to market in some time to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this iconic motorcar.
