This special 2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R was purchased new by
Ford Vice President of Design, Moray Callum. Responsible for many
ground-breaking designs that you see on the road today, Callum is
the driving force behind your favorite looks of Ford's automobiles.
A long-time member of the Ford team, he first joined in 1995 and
spent a number of years with the company before being moved to
Mazda. After a successful stint at the Japanese company, he was
moved back to Ford where he played a critical role in the design of
many iconic cars met with critical acclaim. He was also tasked with
leading the design and revealing of two of the most notable cars,
the sixth generation Ford Mustang and the 2nd generation 2017 Ford
GT. He spec'd his car in Avalanche Grey, a special and unique color
that was only available to a select few individuals who were
pivotal in the design and creation of the new GT350s, and believed
to be only one of two in 2015 in this color specification. Callum
kept the car with extremely low mileage (88 miles), even leaving
the delivery plastic and decals on the car in order to preserve its
factory-delivered nature. Includes are the owner's manuals,
supplements, accessories, and the special presentation box
containing the small model of the flat-plane crankshaft and
limited-edition art prints.
Carroll Shelby was never known for making understated vehicles,
more often than not producing both critically acclaimed and
brutally-fast sports cars such as the AC Cobra. Shelby eventually
turned his attention to the newly-announced Ford Mustang which was
quickly becoming an American classic. Working with Ford to get
Mustang bodies and modifying them for performance, the first Shelby
GT350 Mustang was born. With a high powered 289 cubic inch Ford V8
engine, the same in his Shelby Cobras, the Mustang was infused with
a motorsports mentality, making them true street machines that were
quite capable on the track. With sharper handling, plenty of power
with a few cosmetic additions for good measure, the GT350 became
the sport Mustang of choice for many individuals around the
globe.
Ford Motor Company's Mustang line was due for a complete redesign
and needed to bring something fresh to the table to beat
competitors. Ford dropped hints of a new Mustang variant, one that
was more powerful, track oriented and a Shelby product, for months,
finally releasing details in early 2015. Honoring the famous
moniker that Carroll Shelby established in 1965, the new Shelby
GT350 was announced after the name being dormant for more than 40
years.
At the heart of the new GT350 sits the Voodoo 5.2-liter V8,
complete with a flat-plane crank that together produces a total of
526 all naturally-aspirated horsepower and a sinister high- revving
shriek up to 8,250rpm. New exterior styling was introduced, a new
upgraded interior and numerous handling benefits. But the real
story is in the evil twin of the new GT350, the 2015 Ford GT350R.
The new GT350R is motorsports heaven to anyone who likes Mustangs.
Gone are the aluminum spoke wheels and replaced by full carbon
fiber wheels, a first for a major manufacturer. By replacing those
aluminum wheels with carbon fiber, a total of 52 pounds of unsprung
weight is saved. A special carbon fiber wing replacing the smaller
one on the standard GT350, and the interior is devoid of creature
comforts (that can be added back by the customer) to save weight.
Considered to be the ultimate road or track Mustang ever created,
its raw performance from the all-aluminum 5.2-liter V8, upgraded
suspension for better handling, and new exterior styling with an
upscale interior brings the Mustang into the 21st century and the
GT350R dials it to 11.
When the GT350 and GT350R were revealed in 2015, Ford announced
that they would be building only 37 of the GT350Rs for 2015, making
them instantly collectible. Like its 1965 R-Model counterpart,
production of the GT350R was limited to only 37 units, but this
time around, purchase was restricted to Ford family and VIPs -
making ownership a very exclusive affair.
Essentially a brand-new car, the car looks as if it just rolled out
of the Ford factory. The special Avalanche Grey paint accents the
sharply sculpted lines, with the dark carbon fiber wheels giving
the Mustang a menacing look and stance. If you were looking for the
ultimate GT350R for your collection, why not own the GT350R that
was owned by someone so arguably pivotal in the GT350's stunning
design, Moray Callum? Pair the limited-edition nature of the 2015
Shelby GT350R and having been owned by Ford's Vice President of
Design Moray Callum, this 2015 Ford Shelby GT350R checks all the
boxes for a powerful future collectible.
