Perhaps just the right one is waiting for you. At the very least,
we promise a worthwhile time for all. In 1960 Dodge began
production of the Dart. Although intended as a more affordable
model, several performance engine options were made available for
the performance minded consumer. By 1962, the 413ci max wedge
engine was a favorite option to pack into the lighter weight Dodge
Dart for racing purposes. In 1963 however, Dodge division reduced
the Dart to a mid sized platform answering to the demands for
smaller mid sized cars to remain competitive in the market. First
production releases were mostly tame slant six cylinder offerings
but with the birth of the pony car and muscle car era, Dodge once
again sought to offer performance options in the downsized Dart as
well. In 1966, 50 ''D'' Darts were built. These were stripped down
cars with High performance 273ci V8 engines and four speed
transmissions and were intended strictly for racing. The need for
street versions of this smaller performance Dart became evident and
were also produced. As a result, in 1966, the Dart GT was born.
1,237 Dart GT models were sold in that year with high performance
273ci V8 engines, available four speed transmissions and upgraded
suspension systems. The low production number makes the 66 Dart GT
a rare and sought after collectable car. We are very fortunate to
have obtained an outstanding example of one of these GT models.
Obviously pampered its entire life, this two door hardtop 1966 Dart
GT is in remarkable condition. Having been totally restored, the
mileage shown on the odometer may be the amount driven since
restored but we are not able to confirm it as factual. As compared
to any of the cars in our current inventory, this Dart GT is among
the finest we have seen to date and its overall condition is
stunning.The factory bright red paint with a black half vinyl top
and red interior draws your immediate attention. Chrome and
stainless trim shows as factory original condition and factory
poverty hub caps with 273 fender emblems are an indication that
closer attention is needed. A look under the hood discloses a no
nonsense 273ci V8 engine with a four barrel carburetor and dual
exhaust. The nicely detailed engine compartment still has its
factory certicard in place which shows the car was purchased and
spent most of its life in Dover Delaware. At a local show in Dover,
Richard Petty was so impressed with this rare GT that when asked,
he gladly signed his name in the compartment area. The trunk area
is restored in a bright red paint finish and a spotless floor mat
with a jack and spare tire properly in place. Correct red bucket
seats are found in the interior and are separated by a factory
console, four speed shifter and a console mounted 6K RPM tach. All
interior treatments appear as new with all instrumentation in
spotless condition as well. This Dart GT is a 10 out of 10! The
production numbers are so low on this stunning Dart GT it is
doubtful that more than several hundred still exist. It would be a
true pleasure to drive and show on weekend cruise nights knowing
your GT is bound to be the bell of the ball. Stop in to see this
