Vehicle Description
Whether watching Knight Rider or driving down the interstate,
almost everyone remembers the first time they saw a
third-generation Firebird. The partially repainted Blaze Red 1985
Pontiac Firebird Trans Am we have for you today has just 55,768
(believed) actual miles on the odometer. The 1985 T/A saw the
model's first and only mid-cycle redevelopment to make it more
aerodynamic via new body panel fitment, wrap-around bumperettes,
and a restyled nose, which gave the 1985 car a lower drag
coefficient than any GM car made before it.
Inside this swoopy, low-slung Trans Am, the grey cloth interior
appears stock-appearing, with the lone exception of its upgraded
Pioneer AM/FM CD player head unit. A center console separates the
front bucket seats, while a three-spoke steering wheel featuring a
Firebird logo center cap sits in front of a three-pot analog
dashboard gauge cluster. Fold down the rear seat backs, and this
slick hatchback offers up far more cargo space than its sporty
exterior might suggest.
Under the hood, we find a small block V-8 that the current owner
tells us is now a 5.7-liter V-8. This small block is outfitted with
an Edelbrock High-Flo Tuned Port Injection intake manifold. Power
is routed through a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission before
heading out through an aftermarket muffler.
This 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am benefits from power steering
and power-assisted front disc brakes. The front suspension remains
stock, while the rear has been upgraded with Edelbrock control arms
to help this top-tier Firebird ride smoother and keep its
235/60R-15 Mastercraft tires planted to the ground.
