superb example of a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere with an older but no
expense spared restoration and many new components as documented
earlier. There are no signs of the car having ever been involved in
any accidents and it has no rust. After years of staid boxy and
square cars, Plymouth reinvented itself in 1955 with a startling
new line of sleek and smoothly styled cars, part of Chrysler's
turnaround that year. Styling by Virgil Exner's lietenant Murray
Baldwin was clean and pleasing and modern for its day. Peaked front
fenders, wrapped windshield and shapely rear fenders manifested
themselves with the top-of-the-line Belvedere with some models such
as this one featuring the optional bodyside contrasting color sweep
with a nicely outfitted interior. Like the Chevrolet, Plymouth also
got it's first V8's in 1955 with the 241 cid and optional 260 cid
V8 engines. These optional bodyside 'Sportone' two-tone Belvedere's
were sharp and handsome cars and with forward lunging front fenders
and reverse angle tailights they created a totally new image for
American cars of the era. Plymouth also stressed the fact that its
standard 241 V8 engine had more power than any of its rivals and
even boasted the even higher performance optional 260 V8 with a
startling 177HP! The car also introduced the optional column
mounted gearshift named the 'Flite Control Selector' for the
'Powerflite' transmission which drew plenty of attention. This
particular example has obviously always been garaged and well
maintained since being restored. The floor boards, trunk and all
the typical rust-prone areas are completely solid and rust-free and
the car has no signs of any accidents anywhere - obviously an
always cherished southern California 'Garage Queen' since the
restoration! The car has beautiful two-tone color paint with a
beautiful interior and which is in exceptional condition
throughout. All the chrome is also still in as new condition. The
260 V8 engine is extremely strong and powerful and this particular
car drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be
appreciated - does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten - a
truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day car a
run for it's money! The transmission shifts smoothly through the
gears and the car has four good white sidewall tires and its
original factory hubcaps! This is a rare opportunity to own a very
nice example of a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere with few more correct or
finer looking examples available anywhere else!
