Rare SS 454, #s matching and documented with original build sheet!
Frame off restored and loaded up with nice features: A/C, power
windows, tilt factory gauges etc. The build sheet is crucial to
verify it is a real SS454, otherwise there is no way to tell. this
one also has manual, literature, and receipts. This is a
gentleman's luxury muscle car. It is sleek, sophisticated, sporty
and stunning! This one is an absolute knockout!
EXTERIOR: All this gold makes me think investment grade! The color
combination is nostalgic and absolutely beautiful. The paint was
applied with great attention to detail then polished to a smooth
and slick finish. All the panels are nicely aligned with good gaps.
Looking down the side of the body it is nice and straight with
smooth contours and crisp lines. The big heavy doors close easily
with minimal effort. All the glass looks great, and it has new
rubber seals and fuzzy strips too. The vinyl top was also replaced.
The bumpers and the remaining bright work all have a beautiful
shine to them. The fender mounted fiber optic turns signal
indicators are one of my favorite options ever, and these work
excellent. The grille appears to be original. It also has the
correct SS 454 badging. It is sitting on 15" rally rims wrapped in
BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
INTERIOR: Everything has been redone and looks fantastic! It has
factory air conditioning and power windows. The headliner does not
sag, and the dash is not cracked. It has the factory gauge package
including a tachometer surrounded by a faux wood grain bezel unique
to the Monte Carlo. It also has a modern set of gauges under the
dash which the owner felt for confident in. It's in great shape.
It's equipped with a tilt column and a reproduction deluxe steering
wheel. It has a professionally installed digital stereo with
Bluetooth capabilities and hands-free microphone plus additional
speakers added in the kick panels, rear self and trunk. We have a
receipt totaling $3900 for the stereo components and install. The
cup holder just slides into the ashtray and can easily be removed.
The seats have been nicely reupholstered, and the rear has
seatbelts too. The factory center console with automatic shifter
and storage compartment is in great shape. The carpet has been
replaced and the dome light is working.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The original #'s matching LS-5 454 engine is
still in place. We verified dates, desirable "512" casting # and
the stamp pad looks original. It is very stock in appearance: valve
covers, manifolds, carb etc. It was professionally disassembled and
rebuilt, and we have the receipt including all the details. It was
factory rated at 360 horsepower and this one is equipped with air
conditioning, power steering and power brakes. All the components
look fresh and proper. The hoses have been replaced, the squirters
are hooked up and the battery is properly secured. The underside of
the hood is complete with insulation. The firewall and fender wells
have been neatly painted black.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid and jamb are
painted shiny just like the body. The weatherstrip was replaced and
reproduction stickers were added. There is a custom professional
installed subwoofer enclosure built in. The trunk pan metal is nice
and solid with a neatly applied spatter finish paint. The trunk
light is also working.
UNDERSIDE: Full frame off restoration and looks great! Everything
was rebuilt including the steering and suspension using new
components. It has the F-41 suspension including front and rear
swaybars and boxed rear control arms. It also has front disc
brakes, and the emergency brake is hooked up. The exhaust system
was replaced and has an h-pipe with Flowmaster mufflers and the
correct tips exiting under the rear bumper. Looking up at the
original #'s matching 454 engine it is painted Chevy orange and has
no visible leaks. The Turbo 400 automatic transmission also appears
to be serviced. The 12 bolt posi rear end was equipped with highway
gearing from the factory. The floors are solid and rust free with a
thin undercoating and were freshened up with black paint.
SERVICE: We ran this car through our shop and only had to charge
the air conditioner. It was extremely dialed in when we purchased
it.
The perfect blend of impressive performance, striking design and
comfort! It embodies a legacy of speed and luxury the resonates
strongly with car enthusiasts still to this day. The SS was only
available in 1970 and 454 was the only engine choice. 3,823 were
made making it a very rare car. I have been doing this a long time
and can count on one hand how many I remember seeing. I lost count
of the SS Chevelles I've seen a long time ago! Think fast because
it's not going to last long!
