The Caterham Seven is a classic lightweight sports car known for
its simple design and exceptional handling. Building on the legacy
of the Series 3 Lotus Super Seven, the Caterham emphasizes an
exhilarating driving experience with a focus on performance and
agility. The kit design of the Caterham Seven is characterized by
an open cockpit, simple lines and exposed mechanical components.
This 2-owner 1997 Caterham Seven 'Super Sprint' is NC street-legal
and has a clear North Carolina title. It has been well preserved
and has received significant performance upgrades. This Caterham
was built and owned by two older gentlemen who did not abuse the
car and it is still virtually complete as-built. It has not been
'hot-rodded', as is the case with many of these classic Caterhams.
The current owner states that the car has been on the track for
timed laps, but never actually raced in competition - very rare for
an early Caterham Seven. He has provided extensive documentation
with the car including the original build manual, receipts and
wiring diagrams.
The polished aluminum body is paired with black-finished
nose/fenders and Panasport 13"x7" wheels that mount Avon treaded
ACB10 tires (extra set of wheels/tires included). The car's basic
interior focuses on functionality, featuring a straight forward
dashboard w/full gauge package and lightweight bucket seats that
are nicely upholstered in black vinyl. Both driver and passenger
seats are fitted with 5-point Simpson Racing harnesses. This
Caterham is fully equipped with accessories including a manual soft
top, removable door/side-curtains and the original tool kit. The
roadster is fitted with a rare rear spare tire/mount and original
factory height roll bar. A taller triangulated FIA-approved roll
bar is also included.
The Super Seven is powered by a Ford 2.0L Z-Tec engine that was
installed in 2002. This motor is a DOHC, 16-valve aluminum design
and is equipped with fuel injection and tube header left-side
exhaust w/Flowmaster muffler. This motor was carefully built/tuned
and the owner has included all of the specs, tuner software, actual
laptop computer and dyno information. It is backed by a Quaife
5-speed HD manual gearbox and Quaife limited slip differential with
3.92:1 gears fitted in a solid axle housing. The Caterham features
a lightweight tubular chassis that was originally designed for the
Lotus Super Seven. Upgraded competition springs and adjustable
coil-over shocks are used front/rear and braking is provided by
front disc/rear drum system(original kit suspension components
included). Overall, this Caterham Seven Super Sprint stands out as
a symbol of pure driving pleasure, marrying classic British
motoring heritage with modern engineering, and this one is a jewel.
