The 993 Turbo, introduced in mid-1995 as a 1996, continued to hold
the torch of the most powerful 911 variant while continuing to
improve the breed as a whole. Among the new features on the 993
Turbo was an electronically controlled viscous coupling all-wheel
drive system-something Porsche had not offered on a turbocharged
model since the 959 and a system that greatly improved the
performance of the Turbo. Under the engine lid-now topped with a
sculpted spoiler tail with downturned edges-resided the 3.6 liter
flat six fed by twin KKK K16 turbos, each featuring integrated
waste gates and two air-to-air intercoolers.
Combined with bigger brakes, wider tires, wide body fender arches,
and specially designed 'Technologie-Rad' cast alloy wheels, coined
"Turbo Twist" wheels with hollow spokes, the 993 Turbo was one of
the fastest cars on the planet. With all four wheels tearing into
the pavement and 408 horsepower on tap, 0-60 mph came in an
impressive (even by today's standards) 3.7 seconds, 100mph ticked
by in 5.7 seconds, and the forward progression continued until the
speedometer had crossed 180mph. Beyond just going fast in a
straight line though, the car could pull up to 1.00g on the skid
pad and haul to a stop from 60mph in just 111 feet. In reviewing
the 993 Turbo in June of 1995, Motor Trend magazine proclaimed, "To
beat this Stuttgart screamer into submission requires a force no
less wieldy than the million-dollar 627-horsepower V-12 McLaren
F1."
This 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo was produced on December 9th, 1995
according to Porsche's Certificate of Authenticity. Specified in
Polar Silver Metallic paint with a Classic Grey leather interior,
the car was optioned with Supple leather seats, aluminum instrument
dials, self dimming mirrors and rain sensor, 6-disc remote CD
changer, 8 CD storage on console, and 4 center caps with the
Porsche crest. MSRP was $111,394 in 1996.
The Turbo was first purchased in Idaho in 1996, where by June of
1997 it arrived in Oregon and accumulated just over 4,034 miles.
The stack of maintenance records and clean Carfax attests to its
condition. From June of 1997 to June 2005 the car was located in
Oregon, from July 2005 until early 2012 in California when Canepa
first acquired the car.
In early 2012 this Turbo was sold to who is now a longtime friend
of Bruce Canepa, located in Washington state. Sold with 15,423
miles, the car was still in pristine condition and was a perfect
example of what a 911 Turbo could be. The owner kept the car well
maintained and housed in his auto collection for 12 years, enjoying
it thoroughly while driving it sparingly as a part of the rest of
his collection of vehicles.
After enjoying the time with the car, the 911 Turbo returned to
Canepa after more than a decade with only 18,457 miles on the
odometer, barely over 3,000 miles in 12 years. The condition of the
Turbo is exactly how it left, with its factory Polar Silver
Metallic paint in excellent condition, the interior pristine, and
mechanically sound. Included are the Porsche Certificate of
Authenticity, owner's manuals and books, compressor, jack, and
spare wheel/tire. After giving the Turbo the "Canepa Difference",
ensuring that all mechanical systems are gone through and fully
detailed to concours levels, ensuring the next owner can enjoy the
car as if they just picked it up from a Porsche showroom floor.
