He ordered this car in early 1981 and was delivered to him on 2/10/81. We have all the original paperwork with this car, including the window sticker, build sheet and sales agreement (Showing a 17.61 interest rate!). This car is about as original as you will find, still wearing it's ORIGINAL Michelin TRX tires!
Soon after he purchased this car which was a dream car for him to be able to purchase, he received a company car and this was driven sparingly. Even attending many car shows with it, even then. In 1985 (see inspection sticker) it was put away for safe keeping as life got busy. Months turned to years turned to decades and the car sat covered and dry. Fast forward to 2024 and it was time to resurrect his dream car from 1981. Knowing he wasn't going to be able to enjoy it the way it deserved, he's decided to sell it to a new, caring owner.
This is a rare 'Black Magic' model of which only 4588 were produced for 1981. Add to that the T-top option which this car has and have NEVER been removed, you have an even rarer car with just about 10% of total Capri production checking that box. An automatic transmission, liftgate louvers (an 80's necessity) and the 255 4.2 V8 rounds out this sweet package. He states that he wanted to order the 302 V8 but Ford had that temporarily on restriction due to the ongoing oil crisis in the early 80's. Hence the 4.2 which is quite potent enough.
In order to revive her from her almost 40 year slumber, the fuel system was reworked with a rebuilding of the carburator, a new fuel tank and pump. The original radiator was recored (no cheap aluminum replacement here!) and the water pump was replaced. A fresh oil change and she fired right up. Runs FANTASTIC and does everything it should. With it's original tires however, I won't drive it too far. We left them for preservationists.
The interior is literally like the day it was delivered new with the only flaw noticed is a broken plastic slide on the auto shift lever base. The Black Magic gold and black two tone interior is just STUNNING! The black paint shined up beautifully with some light buffing. Just a few wear areas as expected as the front plastic header end caps have some deterioration from age and a few small scratches on the left front fender (see pics).
It's very hard to pick this car apart. It's overall presentation lends to it's low mileage. This is a true survivor from a model of car so few survived!
