Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is proud to offer this vibrant 1966 Volkswagen Dune
Buggy, a custom-built adventure machine that combines the classic
charm of a VW Bug with a rugged and playful dune buggy style. This
eye-catching buggy features a 1641cc air-cooled engine that's been
fully overhauled, delivering spirited performance without the
complexities of turbo lag or oversized cams. Paired with a 4-speed
manual RWD transaxle, this buggy is ready to tackle sandy dunes,
head to a car show, or cruise down the highway with a smile.
This buggy boasts a Custom Starfield Blue Candy Metal Flake paint
job that sparkles in the sunlight and mimics the beauty of a starry
sky when the night falls. Designed with fun in mind, this buggy is
equipped with a removable fiberglass hardtop and a fold-down
windshield, allowing for open-air driving experiences. The body
sits on a classic 1966 VW Beetle chassis, which has been updated
with new crossmembers, floor pans, and an array of modern upgrades.
The rear features a surprise: a small truck bed with the carburetor
standing proudly above it, along with a chrome blower motor and
quad stainless steel headers. It's outfitted with 15-inch polished
5-spoke mag wheels, Mickey Thompson tires in the rear, and Shenko
rubber up front.
Inside, the buggy features blue and black high-back racing bucket
seats with adjustable tilt-back and four-point safety harnesses.
The dash is simple but functional, featuring a GPS speedometer
cluster, tachometer, and vacuum/boost gauge to monitor engine
performance. Entertainment comes from a Bluetooth-enabled radio
with hands-free phone integration. The cabin is equipped with
modern conveniences like windshield wipers, rearview mirrors, and
interior courtesy lighting, ensuring you're well-equipped for any
adventure.
Powering this buggy is a freshly overhauled 1641cc engine with a
Weber IDF44 carburetor feeding into an Aisin 500 supercharger. The
engine is packed with shiny new chrome components, including a
chrome distributor, and is tuned for responsive acceleration. The
quad stainless steel headers feature removable baffles for
open-header performance when desired. It rides on a Swing axle VW
4-speed manual transmission, ensuring smooth shifts and
reliability.
The braking system has been fully updated with oversized drums
(45mm rear, 35mm front), new lines, shoes, master cylinder, and
more. Despite its small stature, this buggy offers impressive
acceleration thanks to its light weight of just 1,230 pounds.
This 1966 Volkswagen Dune Buggy is pure fun on wheels, with enough
modern upgrades to make it a reliable and exciting ride for any
enthusiast. Whether you're heading to the show, cruising the
streets, or hitting the beach, this buggy promises smiles,
attention, and plenty of power.
