Vehicle Description
After World War II, Chrysler jumped back into production with very
few modifications to their model lineup and available body styles.
For this reason, the modest 250.6ci Straight Six remained available
for the economy minded buyer and the 323ci L-Head 8-cylinder
continued as the power plant for the top-of-the-line models. With a
gorgeous shape featuring long, curved fenders feeding into the
doors, split screen windshield, and a die-cast harmonica-style
grille highlighting the front, these impressive cars made quite a
luxurious presence going down the road!
We are delighted to offer this 1948 Chrysler Windsor 4-door C38
Sedan finished in Black with a complementing combination blue/gray
wool broadcloth interior and beige carpeting. With an original list
price at $1,711 in 1948, it measured a 121.5" wheelbase and weighed
in at 3,528 pounds, making them wonderful road-going cruisers!
Powered by its original C38-coded 250.6ci Straight 6-cylinder
engine and the durable Fluid-Drive 4-speed semi-automatic
transmission, it produced an ideal 114 factory-rated horsepower,
surprisingly just 21 horsepower less than Chrysler's larger V8
counterpart. Additional options include turn signals, push-button
Highlander AM radio with station presets & tone control, trip
odometer, interior courtesy/map lights, Chrysler Model 53 Comfort
Master All-Weather Air Control system, vacuum wipers, correct front
& rear bumper guards, exhaust turndown tip, center-mounted trunk
brake light, cowl vent, chrome hubcaps, and Coker Classic black
sidewall tires!
This very special Windsor C38 Sedan sold new to Edward Montbriand
of Somerset, Wisconsin on February 23rd, 1949 through Mueller Motor
Company, a Chrysler-Plymouth retailer based in Stillwater,
Minnesota. It would stay with Mr. Montbriand and just one other
careful owner for most of its life! Having traveled just 51,358
miles as shown on the odometer, it would be garage kept and
pampered in all-original fashion from brand new! Except for the
cowl area forward the windshield, this Chrysler retains 95% of its
factory applied paint, an all-original interior, factory trunk
paint, window glass, and drivetrain components! A true testament to
the quality construction of the Mopar brand, and exceptional
treatment it has received over the past 75 years!
It has never been professionally restored in any way, making this
time capsule helpful for researchers performing a benchmark
restoration. It also continues to run and drive with ease for the
driver enthusiast! It will come with the original
operation/maintenance manual, owner's service policy booklet with
original owner information, climate-control system instructions,
and several period advertising pieces and brochures. For those
devotees who seek only original vehicles for their collections,
this Chrysler Windsor should be of serious consideration! Note:
this vehicle is titled as a 1949 model in the year it first sold
new. Please call with questions or to schedule your chance to
review it in person. Thanks for looking!
