The late 40's was an interesting time for car manufacturers as
production stopped due to the war. Even after WWII the production
process was slowly starting back up so builders had to focus on
offering updated versions of their prewar designs. However, that
all changed in 1949 with the shoebox Ford. This would be the first
major redesign and Ford would beat the others in the Big Three to
the market and Americans were hungry for something new. This saw
the end of running boards and the integration of fenders into a
single body form. The Custom line was offered as the top trim level
and was met with great success. This 1950 is a very nice Custom
Shoebox and has been completely restored. It is painted in a very
nice dark Burgundy metallic that has a nice finish. It has all of
it's shining stainless and chrome nicely mounted in place including
that iconic bullet nose grill. Fender skirts are in place on the
rear which look perfect on a car of this vintage. All of the
electrical works properly and in addition to the cool old school
blue dot taillights it has a custom 3rd brake light for added
visibility. The glass is all good including that front 2 piece
windshield. Under all four corners are painted to match steel
wheels with beauty rings, Ford center caps and Goodyear wide white
wall radials (P205/75R15).
Turning those tires is the original 8BA Flathead V8 which was seen
by many as one of Ford's most important developments. It has a very
stock appearance but has been upgraded to 12 volt with an
alternator. It runs, drives, and rides great. The 3 speed manual
transmission shifts smoothly and is on the column. Underneath, the
car is solid and you will note it now has dual Smithy exhaust which
delivers a great sound. Another upgrade is the fuse block has been
mounted inside a custom slide out tray found in the trunk for easy
access.
The interior is done in Gray and Red cloth/vinyl upholstery. It is
in great condition throughout and it has a split bench up front
with a full bench in the rear. The dash is in good condition and
all nicely painted Silver. It features all of the stock components
including the custom deluxe trim around the clock and on each end.
Its original AM radio is mounted in place and does work. The trunk
of the car is all finished out nicely and has a full size
spare.
These cars have a classic look that will always be popular and this
one is in great shape.
This clean Ford could belong to you for $35,000.00!
