The first vehicle that over one-third of the world’s population saw was a Land Rover. This 1997 Land Rover Defender 110 Sport Utility is the perfect vehicle to go exploring or keep as a classic. Imported from Scotland to USA in May, 2023, this Defender 110 is equipped with the 2.5L 300 TDI engine which most experts consider the best engine ever made by Land Rover. The 300 TDI engine was introduced in 1994, then improved each year to 1997. In 1998, Defender replaced the 300TDI engine with the TD5 engine which had some perks but purists recognize the 1997 300 TDI engine as the best engine ever paired with the Defender 110. The 300 TDI engine is by far the most reliable and easiest to work on and drivers report this engine is good for many hundreds of thousands of miles. Engine is equipped with air intake snorkel six feet off the ground for water crossings. Five-speed manual transmission with new clutch replaced March 2024. New battery as of October 2023 and regular oil and filter changes every 2,000 miles. All wheel drive all the time, four-wheel drive for off road; five Land Rover Black 16” alloy wheels and nearly-new Michelin Latitude Cross 235/85/R16C tires with full-size new rear-mounted spare; brand new Sony sound system & speakers (blue tooth connectivity); side running board steps. Mileage is 162,900.
Many Model 90 and 110 Defenders from the 1990s are soft top, but this Defender has a solid OEM hard top with side alpine windows and sun roof; original paint is highly desirable British Epsom Green micatallic with black hood and trim. Contains arm rest storage between two front leather/cloth bucket seats, leather/cloth bench seat for three passengers in second row and two side-facing vinyl jump seats in the rear will seat four more passengers or hold a cargo-load of equipment (sits a total of 9 people). FOB-activated car alarm adds extra security. Halogen headlights and front/rear LED lights, heated windshield, heated rear window and heated mirrors. Adjustable trailer hitch and rear step. Tow capacity is 6550kg or 7.22 tons. Exterior has a few dings and chips but otherwise in great condition. Likewise, interior is in great condition, but not perfect. Workshop manual, original high-raise jack, original UK license plates, UK Certified Factory Record, British Ministry of Transportation inspection certificate from 2023/2024 (which is a strict inspection of 21 items for road worthiness) and other documents included with sale.
This Defender rolled off production line on 11 November 1997 and delivered to Perth Scotland where it was purchased and first registered on 10 April 1998 by a Scottish farmer; farmer was only owner before being imported to the USA in May of 2023. Utah (and other states) do not require emissions test for this classic vehicle.
