1969 Camaro Z/28
Cortez Silver / Dark Blue - A Rare Color Combination!
Certified by Jerry MacNeish in January 2020, this Camaro Z/28 was
an unrestored survivor in need of a complete restoration. MacNeish
verified that the car retained its original, factory-installed
engine, transmission, and rear axle.
The car was purchased in Iowa, where the restoration process began
in late 2020. A rotisserie restoration of the exterior body,
floors, and engine compartment was performed, and the car was
refinished in its original Cortez Silver with black stripes by
2021.
In February 2021, the Z/28 was acquired in Iowa with the exterior
paint and stripes completed but still requiring component
restoration. The intent was to restore the car with precision,
preparing it for Bloomington Gold and Camaro Nationals Legends
Judging in 2022. The restoration was executed with extreme
attention to detail, ensuring all components and date codes aligned
with the car's build date, as verified in Jerry MacNeish's
report.
Approximately 243,000 Camaros were produced in 1969, and many parts
had very tight date code tolerances. Most dated components on this
car were within 2-3 weeks prior to the build date, which is
essential for top-level judging like Legends Judging.
At Bloomington Gold 2022, the Z/28 was awarded Gold certification
after a rigorous inspection by three Camaro Nationals team judges.
The typical judging process takes 40 minutes, but in this case, the
judges spent 2� hours meticulously evaluating the car, as it was
also being considered for Camaro Nationals sign-off.
Jerry MacNeish has since conducted a detailed inspection in
preparation for future Legends Judging.
This Z/28 features a rare Cortez Silver exterior with a Dark Blue
interior, a combination believed to be found on fewer than 200
cars. While no definitive data links exterior and interior color
combinations, only 8% of 1969 Camaros were Cortez Silver, and only
10% had Dark Blue interiors.
This is an exceptionally rare, "born-with" driveline Z/28, restored
near flawlessly to its original condition, with nearly all
components matching the build date specifications. It is now ready
for its next chapter-taking on the highest levels of judging at
Camaro Nationals Legends events.
