Vehicle Description
There are plenty of DeLoreans out there from the early 1980s,
enough to evoke images from the Steven Spielberg "Back to the
Future" trilogy that debuted in 1985. However, there is this
DeLorean, which does everything but travel through time.
The former owner spared no expense in turning this 1982 DeLorean
into a replica of the movie car. You don't even need to open the
gullwing doors to see it. The car's exterior is festooned with
cabling, conduits and more, including the flux capacitor. The back
of its stainless-steel body and front bumper is wrapped in
illuminated blue lighting, just like in the film.
The frame of the car is powder coated, and auxiliary lights & wires
can be spotted along the undercarriage and tailfins.
Aside from the add-ons, the car's body is straight and solid, the
frunk is laid out with modules, wiring and dual batteries. Out
back, the fusion replica is mounted over the car's actual internal
combustion engine.
This time-traveling replica rolls on General Altima RT43 radials
mounted on original wheels, 14-inch up front and 15-inch in back.
Steering is rack-and-pinion, with an overall ratio of 14.9:1,
giving 2.65 turns lock-to-lock and a 35-foot curb-to-curb turning
circle. DeLoreans are equipped with cast alloy wheels, that are
staggered in dimension, matching the car's wedge-shape, The wheels
are in good, original order while the tires are in very good shape.
The DeLorean has a four-wheel independent suspension with coil
springs, and telescopic shock absorbers. The front suspension uses
double wishbones, while the rear is a multi-link setup.
Out back under the decoration is the usual Peugeot-Renault-Volvo
2.5L V-6 engine. This engine has a 90-degree layout with a
light-alloy block with cast iron cylinder liners and light-alloy
heads with cross-flow hemi-chambers. It is cooled by a
front-mounted radiator with twin-thermostatically controlled
electric cooling fans. The engine has a 3.6-inch bore and a
2.9-inch stroke, a compression ratio of 8.8:1 and was fitted with a
Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system
The electronics kit can be found in the center console and the dash
features adjustable time circuit boxes with different time options
for "Past, Present and Future." There's a cluster of colorful
overhead switches along the center console and the "flux capacitor"
can be found in between the Bridge of Weir grey leather seats. The
seats, carpet and headliner are all in great condition, as are the
three-spoke steering wheel, dashboard with add-ons and inner door
panels. The center console and shift lever also look fine. Topping
things off is a Craig AM/FM head unit.
