Mercedes still (thankfully) delivers beefy V8 AMG models, although they’re a bit less beefy than they used to be. Even the G63 AMG now has to make do with a heavily turbocharged 4.0-liter engine. In our opinion, things were much better in the past... Back then, there was the SL55 AMG with an engine that lived up to its name: a massive 5.4-liter M113 under the hood, producing 501 Stuttgart horses. This powertrain, which could also be found in the SLR McLaren, packed over 600 galloping horses.
We find the sound of an 'older' AMG phenomenal. As the rev counter approaches 6,000 RPM, you're rewarded with a mighty blend of roar and howl. All the stigmas surrounding the car have faded away, and people are slowly coming to an agreement: this is a beloved youngtimer. It's the perfect combination if you ask us; the convenience of today (with all imaginable modern comfort options like air conditioning, heated seats, electric seats, and roof), but with the 'older' true AMG DNA.
Our SL55 AMG further distinguishes itself from the rest with its stunning, distinctive color combination (Designo Mocca Black exterior with two-tone full leather interior) and a very unique mileage. Everything works as we’ve come to expect from a Mercedes. In short, one of the best AMG's ever made!
