1966 FORD F100 SHORT BED STYLESIDE 2WD PICKUP
This is a clean truck. Never had a hard hit in an accident. Virtually rust free except surface rust from a paint job of over 30 years ago.
History of the truck:
I purchased it nearly 36 years ago (1988??) in Northern California east of Redding in a small town I lived in called Shingletown and believe that I am the 3rd owner. It was inland and never to the coast and salt water. We had snow, but not salt on the roads.
The gentleman I bought it from told me it was originally a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) service truck that he got in an auction. He sold it to me because he wanted a 4x4 truck.
I purchased the truck as a step side. I found a 1965 F100 parts truck and put on the style side bed and hood from the 1965 on to this truck. I also took some chrome parts off of the donor truck to dress up this one. The donor truck also had a front disc brake conversion that I have put on this truck.
The truck came with a 352 FE engine 2bbl, 4 on the floor 4 speed manual transmission with the granny gear. I had rebuilt the engine around 1991-1992. Bored it out to a standard 390 with 390 crank and rods with a mild RV cam. My Dad had an automotive machine shop at the time and he did the machining and assembly. I worked there in High School doing valve jobs and disassembly and cleaning of engines. I put a new flywheel (Made in the USA) and clutch assembly on the install of the new engine from Center Force. All new hoses, belts, plug wires……
I did the body work and an auto painter high school friend painted the truck Wimbledon white in my garage about 30 years ago.. Shortly after it was painted and reassembled on its maiden drive with a fresh paint job, I pulled it out in front of the house to do a burnout. BOOM! I broke the output shaft of the transmission. I found a used 4-speed out of a 1-ton that bolted right in. (I was in a pinch and needed the ride) The clutch was still new at the time. The current transmission could be rebuilt as the synchro’s are bad from 2nd to 3rd. I haven’t been concerned with the transmission as I have an FMX automatic transmission that I have always wanted to put in. It has a Lincoln shift kit in it and was intended to be behind a 427 ci Cougar that never got built. The FMX and every part I have taken off this truck comes with the truck as well as a few new parts that I haven’t been able to get installed. I haven’t had the time to do it.
I’m not sure what rearend is in the truck, but I can say it’s not a typical 9-inch Ford. See the photo, maybe you can tell. Spicer or maybe a Dana. It is geared low with a limited slip posi. It has laid dual ribbons on asphalt is how I know. The drive shaft is also fairly new.
I have replaced the suspension in the last 10 years. The trailing arm bushings, kingpins, tie rods, front coil springs, rear leaf springs and 4 shocks. I recently replaced the master cylinder after 30+ years from the old one that was even used off of the 1965 donor truck.
After the paint job I drove it as a daily driver for about 2 years. After that I have tinkered with the truck and kept working on it to keep it ready to drive. It is ready to drive today. I would do a good service on it if I was to road trip it, though. As the radiator hoses and the like were replaced when the engine was rebuilt some 30 years ago. Any work that I have done to this truck has never been half-assed, except the transmission replacement. I have replaced the original 2 bbl manifold with an Edlebrock 4bbl performer.
I’m asking $12,500 or best offer. I was offered $15k 5 years ago but life was different for me then and things have changed. I’d like to see this truck to go to someone that sees it as it is and is willing to freshen this truck up. I still get comments of how nice it is when I do drive it around. It sounds good, drives good and still turns heads with a thumbs up from passerby’s.
A best guess for milage on the engine is around 40 to 50K. No smoke, but a few normal oil sweats common on the FE’s. It does have a dual point distributor and a new carb from Edlebrock. All old school, no computer chips in this daily driver.
I believe this truck was a special order at the time PG&E purchased it. I have yet to find one that is similar to it by engine, trans and rearend.
