Vehicle Description
2003 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
A 2002 Thunderbird was driven in the Bond film "Die Another Day" by
Bond girl Halle Berry, (Jinx). In the spring of 2003, Ford sold 700
limited edition 007 Ford Thunderbirds to commemorate the first
appearance of a Thunderbird in the 40 year history of the James
Bond film franchise. The Special Coral color matched Berry's
swimsuit and is similar to the 1956 Sunset Coral offered in that
year's bird.
For consignment, one of those limited editions, a 2003 Ford
Thunderbird with a title verified 29,079 actual miles. This is a
two top car, with the Performance White hardtop and black canvas
soft top and has been lovingly owned by our consignor for 20 years,
making him just the second owner. This one is in near showroom
condition and comes with some James Bond documentation and is car
#692 of 700.
Exterior
All panels straight with gaps where they should be, virtually
unharmed with any dents or dings, and covered in Coral glory. The
hardtop sports the iconic porthole mimicking 50 styling is
removable to reveal a wind in the hair experience. All chrome and
bright work is in very fine condition, as well as all power
accessories. The canvas top is clean and intact. From the fender
vents to the grille, to the inverted hood scoop, design cues from
the original Thunderbirds seep into the modern design which remain
strikingly classic. 17-inch chrome wheels wear 50 series tires and
are a great complement to the car's style. These tires, by the way,
might be factory originals based on the date code. Imperfections
include a small dent and sizable scratch to go along with it down
low, and one touched up paint chip.
Interior
Swing the sizable doors open to find a geometric display of
materials in black, white and aluminum and this pattern encircles
the cabin. White horizontal ribbing leather bucket seats make up
the cozy but ergonomically styled passenger compartment with some
patina creases and compression showing on the driver's seat.
Luxurious black carpet covers the flooring and rear cove behind the
seating. Dash contains white analog instrumentation, with a digital
mileage/trip meters. A 6-disc CD player as well as an AM/FM stereo
radio are molded into the center stack while the center console
houses the shift lever that sits between the driver and passenger.
Also seen are climate control instrumentation, heated seats, as
well as automatic convertible top up and down. Power windows, power
locks, power mirrors, variable delay auto off headlamps and power
seats, are the conveniences list. On the steering, wheel cruise
control and sound system controls adorn both sides. On the machined
metal panel in front of the driver, we find 007 embossed, proving
that this is not your ordinary modern Thunderbird.
Drivetrain
A 3.9 Liter 32 valve DOHC all aluminum V8 backed by a 5R55N 5-speed
select shift automatic transmission with overdrive is seen in the
crowded but clean engine bay. Power is sent to the rear axle and
3.58 conventional gears and power disc brakes are supplied at all
four corners.
Undercarriage
Clean and just like it rolled off the factory floor, all good
underneath. Independent McPherson strut suspension is front and
rear and dual exhaust flows into original equipment mufflers before
exiting via shy chrome tips under the rear roll pan. "There's a
saying in England; where there's smoke there's fire...".
Drive-Ability
An overall quick starter, smooth runner and nice handling
capabilities, this Coral colored car performed beautifully on the
test track and passed with flying colors. The cabin is a
comfortable cockpit and peering over the long hood with its scoop
through the raked and robustly supported windshield is a
pleasurable experience. As expected with a car of this vintage and
mileage, all functional items performed as they should. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
Since you only live twice, Classic Auto Mall offers for your eyes
