I am the fourth owner of this beautiful Chevy business coupe. I bought it from a friend of mine who owned it for over 20 years. He did most of the restoration. He bought it from a friend of his who owned and drove it for 25 years as his daily driver. And he got it from his uncle who bought the car new right here in Las Cruces. The car has been in this area for its whole life and has no more than a bit of surface rust underneath.
It is a 1941 Chevrolet Super Deluxe business coupe, and is largely original. The original engine was a 216 cu. in. straight six, and was replaced by a rebuilt 230 cu. in. six cylinder by the second owner. It runs beautifully, has great compression, and doesn't leak or burn any oil. At that time, the car received an electrical upgrade to a 12 volt system with an alternator, a new wiring harness, and a new set of under dash mounted gauges. The rest of the driveline is original, with a three speed, column shifted, hydraulically assisted transmission. In addition to the original mechanical fuel pump, an electrically operated fuel pump was installed. The original dash with odometer, clock and gauge cluster remains, and a new stereo system was installed. The split bench seat, headliner, and door panels have all been recovered with an original wool fabric. New carpet and floor mats were installed.
Since I've owned the car, I've done a complete brake job with new shoes and cylinder cups. I also rebuilt the speedometer and put a new battery operated clock in the original housing. New shock absorbers were installed in the rear, and I added a Signal Stat 900 turn signal and flasher on the steering column. The car received a new battery in March, 2024.
This Chevy rides on Firestone radial tires. In the front are P215/60R16s, and in the rear are P225/65R16s. All have approximately 90% tread left. The car received a stunning custom paint job about 25 years ago, and is in remarkable condition today. All trim pieces were removed, polished and reinstalled at the time of painting. The glass is in excellent condition and all doors and windows function normally.
For an 83 year old, pre-war car, this Chevy is in unbelievably nice condition and is fun to drive. It steers straight and stops well. It feels like you're driving your sofa down the highway it's so smooth and comfortable.
