Vehicle Description
Incredible body-off build. 350 cubic inch GM 'Ram Jet' crate motor
with 700R4 automatic. 4-wheel disc brakes. Gorgeous wood bed floor.
Show-quality paint. Custom interior with buckets. This is easily
the best El Camino we've ever seen! The more we look at this
stunning 1982 Chevrolet El Camino, the more impressed we are. We're
usually disappointed by cars that knock on our door, but this one
just keeps getting better. At a glance, the deep burgundy paint is
absolutely gorgeous with laser-straight bodywork underneath. I
mean, there's a TON of time wrapped up just in the cosmetics on
this car. Up front there's a custom smoothie bumper and in back the
original bumper was tucked in tight to the bodywork and painted to
match, so everything looks very tidy. It wears 'Black Knight'
graphics although it is not a real Black Knight (which was only
available in 1978), probably because the builder liked the look?we
can't argue with his choice. The remaining chrome and stainless
trim was all polished to a high shine before being reinstalled, and
there's a spectacular wood floor in the bed (it's removable if you
really want to use this gorgeous car for hauling stuff). You'll
note that every square inch of bodywork was covered in that
luscious burgundy metallic paint and then color-sanded and buffed
to a high shine; even the interior of the bed is as brilliant as
the exterior. And you should hear the way the doors sound on this
Elky?no rattles, no sloppy whap, just a solid THUNK when they swing
closed. Somone got the details right on this one.The interior is a
seamless blend of stock and custom equipment, starting with a set
of Procar bucket seats trimmed in burgundy to match the rest of the
interior. New carpets on the floor and some exceptionally nice door
panels work with fresh weather seals to make this car feel tight
and solid. Big, round factory gauges are all operational, and the
list of options includes power windows and locks, tilt steering
column, and an upgraded Retro Classic AM/FM stereo head unit that
looks like the original. The three spoke steering wheel looks
suitably sporting and while the burled walnut trim isn't especially
convincing, it remains in outstanding condition. We don't know
where this car lived its life, but it clearly wasn't left outside
baking in the hot sun. Tip the seats forward and there's a bit of
concealed storage as well as what appears to be the original spare
tire and jack assembly, still stashed in their nook.Mechanically,
this car is all-new, including a fresh GM 'Ram Jet' 350 cubic inch
V8. With sequential fuel injection, it's a great addition and makes
considerably more power than the original 305. It's also nicely
dressed with chrome valve covers, ceramic-coated long-tube headers,
red plug wires, and a lot of aluminum bits. It's a clean fit in the
El Camino's engine bay, looking like a factory installation right
down to the serpentine belt drive system for the accessories.
There's a big new radiator up front, a heavy-duty alternator, and
all-new belts and hoses so it's ready to drive. You'll note the
exceptional bodywork continues into the engine bay and includes
matching paint on the brake master cylinder and booster as well as
the heater housing for a clean look. It obviously starts easily and
runs properly thanks to the wonders of fuel injection, and there's
a fat torque curve that makes this El Camino feel downright fast.
Part of that is thanks to the quick-shifting 700R4 4-speed
automatic transmission, which replaces the original 3-speed unit.
It, too, is a brand new GM piece and it's a great match to the 3.08
gears out back, which make this a fantastic highway cruiser. You
will note that almost everything underneath the car is new,
including the suspension, bushings, shocks, sway bars, and trailing
arms, most of which are from Hotchkis. There's also a disc brake at
all four corners, which not only improve stopping performance but
look awesome behind those shiny 16-inch aluminum wheels and
245/60/15 BFGoodrich radials.Extras include the original build
sheet, purchase documents, owner's manuals, and the diagnostic code
tool for the fuel injection system. The attention to detail and
exceptional finish quality of this El Camino is extremely
impressive. It gets even more impressive when you look at the
price. It easily cost multiples of that amount to build this car
and it shows. It's also a lot of fun to drive, with great power
that's never fussy and all the right hardware to make it work right
on the street. This is a car you're going to want to show off. Call
