Vehicle Description
1954 Chevrolet 3100 Series Pickup
"Old pickup trucks don't merely recall a simpler America. They are
America. These basic, rugged, reliable vehicles have a remarkably
widespread appeal. We found old pickup trucks owned by farmers,
lawyers, doctors, innkeepers, actors, plumbers, and musicians. This
truck of theirs is the most beautiful thing they have ever laid
eyes on." From Pickups, 1996
For consignment, a 1954 Chevrolet 3100 Series pickup with a title
verified 45,309 actual miles and recipient of full restoration in
2016. We love the fantastic choice of colors here and we think you
will too! The truck will come with bedside rails not shown in the
photos.
Exterior
Shoreline Beige is accented by Saddle Brown Metallic covering the
fenders, running board, and cab where an orange pinstripe adds some
subtle design flair. The beige is wonderfully picked up by the
16-inch steel wheels with chrome dog dish hubcaps and beauty rings,
surrounded by wide white walls for an ultimately classic
presentation. More chrome is found on the beefy grille and curved
bumper with bumperettes that look like bulldog teeth under a wide
grin. The Chevrolet emblem on the nose is epic and wears red and
blue paint and serves as the base for the trim piece that travels
over the hood all the way back to the cowl vent. This truck has
side mirrors on both sides for more metallic bling. Bezeled door
handles are robust and shiny while the Chevrolet branded steel step
plates on the running boards are appropriately ridged for non-slip
texture. High gloss oak planks alternate with stainless rails in
the bed and the stamped tailgate wears polished hinge hardware over
a chrome bumper and twin chrome exhaust tips. The only imperfection
we find is a bit of paint run in the brown.
Interior
An oak panel makes up the upper door inside and holds the typical
hardware while the remainder of the door wears the exterior beige
paint on steel. A brown bench welcomes three occupants with a
subtle stitched pattern. The chocolate brown plastic steering wheel
is clean and simple and leads to the beige dash where two gauges
reside providing six bits of information while the grated dash in
the center has brown accents above an AM/FM/Cassette radio and two
added gauges along with robust metal and bakelite knobs throughout.
A floor mounted Lokar shifter rises high to greet the driver and is
based in gold loop style carpet protected by plastic mats and all
is in fine condition. A brown vinyl headliner meets a padded beige
vinyl rear wall covering for a cozy enclosure.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, a clean and orange 283ci V8 with a 4-barrel Holley
carburetor and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that sends
power to the back axle fitted with 4.11 gears. A gold booster is
present indicating this truck is equipped with power brakes, discs
in front and drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
Aside from the occasional cobweb, the underside is show worthy
clean! Minimal surface rust and no errant fluids anywhere! The wood
plants are coated in flat black paint and blend with the dominant
colors of the underside. Suspension consists of leaf springs front
and rear and dual exhaust travels cleanly down the truck
encountering stock style mufflers before exiting via chrome
tips.
Drive-Ability
We step up into the clean cab of this 3100 and enjoy the near
panoramic view from the vertical windshield. The back window is
another story as they provide a narrow view, so side mirrors come
in handy for those rare times you'll be amongst traffic. Meanwhile,
the V8 comes to life and the shifter goes smoothly into Drive and
off we go around the test loop with adequate power and
acceleration, wonderful straight tracking, and excellent stopping
prowess. This is a very pleasant place to be and enjoy the engine
sounds because the radio turns on but does not produce sound. Not a
problem for us! Every other function on the truck works as it
should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is a beautifully restored '54 that is absolutely show worthy.
