For Sale: 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV in Dolan Springs, Arizona

Vehicle Description

All I can say is WOW, what a nice rare hard to find classic car. Not too many of the 1972 year still around in this condition.

This car starts right up and runs smooth. Not a perfect car, but I've never seen a perfect vintage classic car. It is however a well-preserved, garaged, affordable daily classic driver considering its 53-year history. This car will “start right up,” drive, stop, and run “smooth and quiet.” the engine does not overheat, and the transmission shifts smooth, and it has clean fluids.

I purchased this car because I had always wanted a 1972 Continental, as it a one year only car, and undoubtedly the very best year of the mark IV.

This car was made before the 5 mile an hour front impact bumpers, emission controls, smaller engine and the reworked rear end.

Resurrected after the Mark III in 1969 after Lee Iacocca instructed Ford designer Gene Bordinat to put a Rolls Royce grille on a Lincoln Continental, the big Lincoln Continental Mark IV coupe became arguably the most flamboyant of all Lincoln models.

The Mark IV arrived in 1972 sharing much of its design with the lesser Ford Thunderbird.  The 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV is 228 inches long, with a 120-inch wheelbase.

The Lincoln features the “Continental spare” in the trunk lid as well as hidden headlamps and the de rigueur Rolls-aping grille.

All that came in a car that tipped the scales at well over two and a half tons. This was an era when Ford would advertise their cars as having “road-hugging weight,” and apparently none hugged tighter than the big Lincolns.

All that excess needed a big motor to move and the Mark IV acquits itself on that account too.

Under the flight deck… er, hood lies a 460 CID V8, still with a four-barrel Edelbrock carb. Factory rated at 212 horsepower (this was the first year that manufacturers were required to report net) and was backed up by a C6 three-speed automatic.

The miles are unknown as the odometer stopped working. However, the Lincoln has seen an engine rebuild at some point along the way.

The only update is a reworked exhaust. Other than that, it seems to be just how the factory and Lee Iacocca intended it to be.

The car’s paint is Medium Brown Metallic and that’s matched to a dark brown leather interior with tufted upholstery and lots of fake woodgrain on the dash and doors.

At some point someone tried to steal the big Lincoln. To repair the damage the steering column and ignition has been replaced with one out of another Mark IV. The column just needs to be painted to match the old one.

There are a couple of knobs missing, but that’s somewhat countered by the 8-track stereo which is about as badass a thing to have as you can imagine.

Aside from all that, the cabin is very nice and comfortable, and the car has functional A/C and a sunroof, both rarities on American cars of this age.

This Mark IV presently has a clean title in my name.

I have owned this car for since 2021 and have enjoyed every moment this car has been in my life. I am not a dealer or a car flipper, my heart is with vintage American autos. I buy them as a hobby, and the experience. Not to make a profit.

This car truly speaks for itself.

The car is located in Dolan Springs AZ about 1 hour outside of Las Vegas.
