If you wanted a luxury convertible from 1963, this Galaxie 500XL
was the Blue Oval of choice. These cars were very well built and
nicely appointed. Galaxie's body style was more than a modest
upgrade to the earlier models but continued to utilize the long
hood and trunk configuration that was prominent in the day.
As Nice As They Come-
This meticulously restored 1963 Galaxie 500XL convertible is as
nice an example as you will find. It looks very original but has
serious performance upgrades. The professional Black exterior
respray is in outstanding condition and there is plenty of chrome
front and rear. Factory steel wheels w/factory XL spinner wheel
covers mount whitewall tires, and a pair of classic fender skirts
complete the exterior package. The red vinyl interior looks
handsome. This Galaxie 500XL is nicely equipped with bucket seats,
center console w/shifter and factory AM radio (needs TLC). The
beautiful white convertible top is operated by a power mechanism
that works very well.
Side Oiler Big Block Power-
The Ford was originally powered by a 352ci FE equipped with a
2-barrel carburetor (X-code). That engine has been replaced with a
427ci 'side-oiler' motor. All components appear to be correct 427
pieces. The block and heads are 1966 vintage (C-6 casting). It is
fitted with roller cam/roller rockers, and the exhaust is routed
through cast iron headers. The big FE is mated to Ford's strong
3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The spotless chassis
is equipped with power steering, power drum brakes, coil-over
shocks and stainless dual exhaust.
There are few of these full-size summer cruisers to still be had,
and even fewer built like this one.
Your Blue Oval garage deserves this muscular Galaxie 500XL.
