Vehicle Description
Very clean full-sized convertible. Beautiful paint over straight
bodywork. Restored bucket seat interior with new power top.
Powerful 425 cubic inch V8. Very well documented. Runs and drives
great! Big Oldsmobile muscle that stands out in a crowd. This
handsome 1965 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 is one of those cars that you
buy because of quality. Someone spent a huge amount of money on the
restoration, as evidenced by the 3-inch-thick file that accompanies
the car. Seldom do cars like this get restored to this level, and
it was obviously a labor of love. The Dynamic 88 was technically
the mid-sized Olds in 1965, bracketed on top by the massive 98 and
below by the Cutlass, but make no mistake, this is a full-sized
car. The sparkling Provincial White paint makes the big ragtop look
athletic and trim, particularly with the kick-up on the rear
quarters. Finish quality is excellent with even gaps throughout and
doors that close with a substantial feel that's quite unlike most
1960s convertibles. Details like the shrouding around the
headlights, the minimal chrome, and the quad taillights out back
add interest, and there's a contrasting blue pinstripe running the
length of the car. Chrome and stainless trim is very good to
excellent---more proof that someone invested a lot of money in the
restoration. This is a very clean car.Finding bucket seats in a
full-sized Olds is a rare treat, and the entire interior has been
restored to factory specs. Almost everything you can touch inside
the car is new, including the seat covers, door panels, and
carpets, and it looks quite authentic. The factory instrument panel
is interesting, with a large central pod housing the speedometer,
with dials on either side for fuel level and warning lights, and a
clock on the right (which wants to work but stops after a period of
time?it could be cleaned and lubricated to work properly). You also
get a full-length console with the bucket seats, and that console
includes a tachometer (not operational due to the electronic
ignition). Someone has also added a digital temperature gauge under
the dash, discreetly tucked behind the tach. Brushed stainless
surfaces make the Olds look clean and upscale and the pushbutton
controls for the heater system are just plain cool. The AM radio
works, as do both speakers and the power antenna on the rear
deck?even the Wonderbar function works! Of note, there's some
pitting on the console itself, which is probably original, and the
clock is inop, but otherwise this car is 100% ready to cruise. The
seats are firm and comfortable, there is recent weatherstripping
throughout, and the blue power convertible top folds itself neatly
and is hidden by a matching blue boot. The massive trunk includes
what appears to be the original mat, as well as a full-sized spare
tire assembly with bumper jack.For 1965, a 425 cubic inch V8 was
standard equipment in the 88, with this car offering the optional
Super Rocket V8 with a 4-barrel carb and dual exhaust. That big
motor generates the kind of torque that makes this big convertible
feel 800 pounds lighter and gives it the moves of a genuine muscle
car. It's fully rebuilt and nicely detailed with bright red
Oldsmobile engine enamel, a correct dual snorkel air cleaner, and
satin black inner surfaces. Power steering and power brakes are
included, with an upgraded dual master cylinder for safety. A giant
radiator keeps even this massive engine nice and cool and there's
an Optima red-top battery to crank it over effortlessly. For 1965,
the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission was standard equipment,
and it has proven to be one of the most durable automatics of all
time. We believe there are 3.23 gears in back, which make this car
a comfortable cruiser on the highway. This was not a body-off
restoration, but you can see that the floors and rockers are super
solid, as is the trunk pan and extensions?this was never a rusty
car. A newer Flowmaster dual exhaust system sounds awesome and
terminates in a pair of chrome tips under the rear bumper that are
just subtle enough to be appropriate on an Oldsmobile. There are
fresh shocks and springs up front so it sits right and the front
suspension offers a lot of new components so it tracks straight on
the road. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels are exactly the right choice on
the sporty Dynamic 88 and carry fresh 235/60/15 front and 255/60/15
rear performance radials.Documentation is extensive, including
restoration receipts and photos, manuals, brochures, and much
more.Oldsmobiles in general tend to fly under enthusiasts' radar,
but even a quick glance will reveal that they're really good cars
and represent a huge value for the money. A Chevy Impala
convertible in this condition would cost thousands more and would
still be less of a car with a smaller motor. You get full-sized
comfort, effortless performance, great club support, and a car that
will stand out instead of blending in. If this was your father's
Oldsmobile, perhaps your father had it going on more than you
thought, because this is a seriously cool car. Call today!Harwood
