Authentic Firebird 400, Pontiac Historical documented! Original #
matching engine, the unit # matches the PHS papers. The recipient
of a ground up restoration with many receipts to document the
build. The suspension has been upgraded for a pro-touring ride
quality. A heavy hitter without a huge price tag!
EXTERIOR: This Tyrol Blue paint is totally gorgeous! The metal
flake is laid out beautifully. The paint was applied with great
attention to detail then brought to a shiny and reflective finish.
Looking down the side of the body it is 100% laser straight without
a ripple or wave in sight. All the panels have been painstakingly
aligned with consistent gaps that are well above average. The doors
close easily with minimal effort. It has dual side view mirrors.
The glass appears to be original with the rubber seals and fuzzy
strips replaced. The 400 hood has functioning scoops. The grill was
replaced or refinished. The bumpers where rechromed and all the
trim has a beautiful shine. It's sitting on a set of restored 15"
Pontiac rally ll rims with reproduction lug nuts and are wrapped in
BFGoodrich radial tires.
INTERIOR: This is a good-looking interior that is in very good
condition! Custom upholstery on the seats. The door panels and door
hardware were replaced. All the dash metal was repainted. It's
equipped with factory rallye gauges, and a triple gauge cluster was
added under the dash and a small tachometer to the column. It has
Firebird embroidered floor mats. Overall, this interior feels great
and presents very well.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: #'s matching 400 cubic inch V8 under the hood!
Very hard to find with the unit # that matches. Completely rebuilt
engine top to bottom. It's topped off with an Edelbrock AVS 2
carburetor and flanked by very practical plug wire holders. Also
has an upgraded camshaft. It's equipped with power steering and
power brakes. A big aftermarket aluminum radiator with electric fan
keeps everything cool. The original cowl tag is in place. The
underside of the functioning Ram Air hood is painted body color.
The fender wells and firewall have neatly applied black paint.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid and jamb are
painted body color. The weather stripping was replaced. The trunk
pan metal is solid and rust free with a neatly applied spatter
finish paint.
UNDERSIDE: The steering has been rebuilt. The suspension is
upgraded with lowering shocks/springs in front. In back it's now a
four-link system with tubular control arms, a Panhard bar, coil
over adjustable gas shocks and tubular traction bars. The brake
system has also been upgraded with disc at all four wheels and the
e-brake is hooked up. It also has a custom exhaust with direct flow
mufflers. Looking up at the motor it is very clean and has a high
torque starter. It also has a Turbo 400 automatic transmission that
looks fresh. Out back is a 12 bolt rear end. The floors are solid
and rust free with a nicely applied black paint.
SERVICE: After our inspection we adjusted the choke, fixed the
reverse lights, replaced the shifter slider plate, fixed the
wipers, recalibrated the speedometer, fixed the blower, installed
horns, replaced the heater control cables, replaced an ashtray,
installed defrost vent duct, had an alignment done, fixed the brake
light, fixed the passenger window function, replaced the door
locks, and installed rubber door bumpers.
A real stunner with the number matching 400 V8 under the hood! The
Firebird 400 is equivalent to the SS 396, you certainly see much
fewer of these! The knockout paint job will have you addicted, and
the pro touring suspension will have fiending for another ride. The
Pontiac Firebird, when it talks, you listen!
