For Sale: 1996 Shelby Cobra Replica in Guilford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

1996 2 Owner, ERA Cobra

This Cobra was bought and built in 1996. ERA replicas, know as one of, if not THE best, representation of a the 427 era 1966 Cobras out there, built the entire car as a turn key for the first owner. He owned it and drove all over the coastline fo CT and amassed just over 12,000 miles on her when he sold her to the current owner about 4 years ago. This owner put about 4000 miles on her and then the engine went about a year and a half ago. He pulled the engine (although the body is badged as a 427, the engine is a 428 - roughly 100 of the original 427 Shelby Cobras came with a 428 due to engine supply issues back in 66, this car was built to replicate one of those and it also replicates one of 46 that were painted in Ivy Green metallic with the correctly tapered Wimledon White stripes. ), he pulled the engine to have it rebuilt and while the engine was out, he decided to address a couple issues under the hood, this of course led to finding other things and as often happens, one thing led to another and the entire car was stripped, sanded and repainted in the same color and nearly everything was replaced. The car was rewired, the 4 speed was rebuilt, new clutch, new gauges, new carpet, many new bolts, the fully boxed frame was cleaned up and repainted.

She still retains her original seats, as they were in very good condition, the coil over shocks were kept, the rear diff (but it was rebuilt), the gas tank was kept.

There is a full soft top that comes with her as well.

This is in essence, a brand new ERA Replica Cobra.

The Ivy Green Metallic paint is near perfect, especially as it's brand new. The stripes are laid out as Shelby did and they taper correctly.

The rear end is a Jaguar unit from an XJ6 and carry's inboard disc brakes. Disc brakes do the stopping up front as well.

Aluma-coat side pipes move the spent gasses out while a Holley 4 barrel moves the clean air in. A correct air box directs the air from the scoop into the air cleaner.

The car was delivered earlier this season and the current owner has put about 370 miles on her in the time since the full restoration/rebuild.

The wheels are Cobra II's and replicate the wheels Carroll used on the 427's he built, these are also true spin offs and are wired. Brand new BFG Radial T/As are tucked into the wheel wells and look just right in 235/60/15's in front and out back 295/50/15's put the estimated 450 HP and over 400 lb ft of torque to the ground.

She starts right up cold with just two taps of the throttle pedal and settles very quickly into a lumpy, but solid idle. Blip the gas and she rumbles and snarls.

The gas and clutch are very well balanced and make for easy, controlled launches.

With all new bushings and body mounts, the car is as quiet (in terms of bumps and squeaks) as a new car - aren't too many new cars that sound like a 428, open side-pipe Cobra though. She runs and drives great, the big meats really keeping her planted the ground.

If you're looking for a brand new ERA Cobra, look no further.

This one is ready to go, and for less than you can have one built today.

Unfortunately the owner has knee issues which has made driving her painful, so he's decided to let her go.
