swap with a brand new GM Goodrich Crate 350-300 horse engine with
the chrome open element air cleaner, aluminum intake, 4-barrel
carb, blue painted valve covers, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes,
Air Conditioning, and sits in a very clean and detailed engine
compartment with the correct shaker hood scoop. It has dual
exhaust, a 10-bolt rear end, and rides on gold aluminum Snowflake
wheels and black sidewall performance tires. Interior Our 1981 TA
has a great blue/grey vinyl and cloth Interior with bucket seats
and matching rear seat, center console housing the automatic
shifter, blue simulated leather-wrapped Formula steering wheel, and
an engine-turned instrument panel inlay, the Rally Gauge cluster
which included both a working clock and tachometer, power windows,
blue carpets, blue floor mats, blue safety belts, and air
conditioning. Exterior Our 1981 is painted in Dark Blue Metallic
and featured the Pontiac redesigned nose and tail sections, both
molded from a new, softer plastic material, Shaker hood, front and
rear spoilers, and wheel opening spoilers, all covered in the sharp
blue exterior paint and the Trans Am Bird on the hood. The front
end sports quad headlamps recessed into individual tunnels, while
the blacked-out split grilles were repositioned below the lamps;
turn signal/running lamps were recessed into the grilles. The tail
panel appeared to be one continuous blacked-out unit with the
taillamp lenses flanking the centrally positioned fuel-filler door,
cloaked in matching trim. Conclusion The 1981 Pontiac Firebird
