Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser oozes vintage appeal throughout. In the
world of rugged, do-anything off-road vehicles, few nameplates have
the cachet of Toyota's Land Cruiser. Known around the globe for
bulletproof reliability, Toyota launched the third generation of
its now-famous Land Cruiser in 1960. The FJ40 succeeded the "20
series" model, and official importation to the United States began
in 1963. Within two years, the FJ40 Land Cruiser had become the
best-selling Toyota in America. Improvements were incorporated over
the years, but the FJ would remain essentially the same
cosmetically until it went out of production after the 1984 model
year.
This 1972 FJ40 two-door hardtop shows signs of being carefully
enjoyed and not abused. Sitting up on black 17-inch American Racing
wheels wrapped with LT285/70R17 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires,
other features include a new ARB front bumper with Warn winch,
upgraded headlights, tinted glass, rear bumper with hitch receiver
and rear cargo rack, as well as a matching spare tire and wheel on
a swing mount.
The interior has been fitted with upgraded and comfortable bucket
seats, roll bar, locking Tuffy console with hidden Sony AM/FM/CD
radio, air conditioning, white-faced VDO gauges and a tilt steering
column topped with a grippy Pontiac steering wheel.
