Known around the globe for bulletproof reliability, Toyota launched the third generation of its now-famous Land Cruiser in 1960. The FJ40 succeeded the "20 series" model, and official importation to the United States began in 1963. Within two years, the FJ40 Land Cruiser had become the best-selling Toyota in America. Improvements were incorporated over the years, but the FJ would remain essentially the same cosmetically until it went out of production after the 1984 model year.
