This 1948 Special Deluxe resto-mod is in stunning show condition, with both the original exterior and interior hardwoods professionally restored by Ron Heiden. The restoration included a new rear post, all-new flat panel inserts, and a new rubber exterior roof covering. The solid, rust-free steel body is finished in a deep maroon paint that beautifully complements the factory brightwork, including the grille and fender spears. The result is a tasteful blend of originality and restoration that feels just right—without being overdone.
Under the hood, nestled between the original chassis rails, is a completely updated powertrain. It starts with a GM ZZ4 350 4-barrel V8 crate engine featuring an aluminum intake manifold, GM Quadrajet carburetor, GM HEI ignition, block-hugger headers, modern serpentine belt drive system, high-capacity cooling, high-amp alternator, GM A/C compressor, and polished finned engine accents. Power is smoothly transferred through a 700-R4 overdrive transmission to a Currie Ford 8" rear differential, ensuring a road-friendly and quiet ride.
The original chassis has also been modernized with a host of upgrades. It features a Kugel IFS Phase-II fully independent front suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, billet control arms, adjustable coil-over front shocks, stabilizer bar, aluminum front disc brakes with calipers and backing plates, updated parallel rear leaf springs, modern gas shocks, rear drum brakes with an emergency brake, a powder-coated fuel tank, custom dual exhaust, and steel wheels with deluxe trim and whitewall radial tires.
Inside, the factory dash is beautifully restored and enhanced with maroon leather upholstery over the original factory seating, including the third-row seat. The interior features a GM tilt steering column with column shifter, billet shifter, a billet/mahogany Lecarra steering wheel, full VDO instrumentation, vintage air conditioning and heat, custom under-dash controls and vents, factory trim and hardware, and a custom audio system with rear speakers, perfect for any beach party.
