Totally tricked out lead sled that would make James Dean jealous!
We just acquired this car from the gentleman that built it, he's
owned it for 40 years. Acknowledged by the world renowned "King of
Customizers" George Barris and winner of the prestigious "BARRIS
PICK" award. This quintessential hot rod looks like it just rolled
off the set of American Graffiti, and reeks of high-quality
workmanship. I wouldn't want to know what a professional shop would
charge today for all these body modifications and paint.
EXTERIOR: Extensive bespoke body modifications! There is so much
more custom work than meets the eye. The top was chopped 4 inches.
The hood, trunk and doors were shaved, plus all the corners were
rounded. First time I have seen Mercury emblems on the fenders act
as door poppers. The lakes pipes were custom molded into the body.
The grill shell and front pan were molded. The headlights were
frenched, and parking lights were removed. The turn signals are
integrated in the Pontiac grill that was lengthened by 10 inches.
The front bumper and the bumper guards were removed, the holes were
filled, and it was chromed. Custom bubble fender skirts that have a
rolled top edge and 3 teeth were added in the front scoop. The
taillights are custom made and the rear pan was molded. The rear
bumper was smoothed and has Pontiac bumper guards. The antenna was
removed, and the gas door was filled in. It has 1953 Buick side
moldings and a beautiful custom mixed Grape and Lavender paint job
with a urethane clear coat. Very practical v-but windshield plus
working vent and rear 1/4 windows. Cadillac sombrero hubcaps with
bullet centers sitting on classic wide whitewall radial tires.
INTERIOR: It's a custom Interior by Kasper! Up front is a power
Cadillac bench, and in back is a wraparound Thunderbird seat. Both
seats have a fold down arm rest. The stereo is cleverly hidden in
the driver's door panel and has a hidden antenna too. Courtesy
lights are also hidden under the rear seat. The overhead console
has power window switches and map light. On the column is a
tachometer, vintage Stewart Warner amp and oil gauge. 3 on the tree
manual shifter. The custom mounted side view mirror is much more
useful than expected. This interior is just as comfortable as it is
beautiful!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Picture perfect! The performance built 1950
Mercury flathead V-8 features dual Stromberg 97 carbs, Edmond's
intake, Edelbrock finned high compression heads and a Mallory
ignition. It's been upgraded to a 12 volt charging system with an
alternator. The stainless-steel panels all around the engine bay
and a brass top radiator really dress things up nicely. The chrome
hood hinges are a nice touch too.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It was completely boxed and upholstered to match
the interior. Under the trunk lid is also upholstered and so is the
tire cover. The fuel filler was relocated to the trunk and the
battery is hidden behind a panel.
UNDERSIDE: Smoother than a Cadillac! The suspension was lowered 3"
in the front and 4" in the back for the perfect stance; it still
feels like you're riding on a cloud. We replaced the rear shocks.
The emergency brake is hooked up. Now equipped with a dual exhaust
system that has Smithy mufflers and flame throwers! The fuel pump
has been upgraded to an electric unit that is mounted externally.
Looking up at the modified flathead engine it is nicely painted
with no visible leaks. The 3 speed manual transmission also looks
nice and clean. All the floorboards and frame appear to be solid
and rust free.
SERVICE: Our lead mechanic thoroughly inspected this car and we
replaced the rear shocks, replaced the master cylinder, and
replaced the right front wheel seal.
CONCLUSION: Exquisite craftsmanship is evident in this build! It's
a timeless hot rod that has all the makings of a classic because it
already is one! Cool, comfortable, and custom describe this lead
sled perfectly! I drove it and could not believe how smooth it rode
and that was on a bumpy road!
For nearly 30 years, I, Jay Grams, have personally written the
highlights for almost every car in our collection. What I provide
is my professional opinion based on my experience with these
vehicles. However, opinions can vary, and I strongly recommend a
personal inspection to form your own view. Our sales team is always
available to answer any questions you may have. One great option is
to request a personalized walk-around video, where we can showcase
the car and share our team's insights. **Our cars are displayed
within a museum setting. If you are interested in a specific
vehicle, please schedule an appointment with a salesperson to view
it. Without an appointment, there is an admission fee to enter the
showroom. If you decide to purchase a car, your admission will be
refunded, and you'll receive a one-year museum membership.
